I would have Smith back in a heartbeat. He turns plodders into decent First Graders. Brown turns stars into plodders.

He also had game plans for different opponents, which is preferable to our current game plan of boring everyone to death by going one out and putting a shit kick in.
Smith was really good at identifying someone's strengths and working his game plan around that and I think you can see Trent Robinson has taken that on board as well. Back in the day Smith had specialists bench forwards in Wicks and Fa'aoso who were there for impact and energy, also it didn't take him 5 years and big name signings to rebuild, he did it in 18 months with no names like Fa'aoso, Zeb Taia, Junior Sau, Mark Taufua, Keith Lulia, Cooper Vuna, Matt Hilder, complimenting local juniors in Kidley, Mullen, Cory Paterson, Uate, Scott Dureau, etc

We played an entertaining brand of football too that suited an undersized but pretty quick forward pack.

Smith was terrific. He got good football out of blokes that no other coach could.
Yep we did try to arm wrestle teams, we had big, powerful outside backs, Dureau and Mullen weren't afraid to chance their hands, we had forwards who could break the line, even if we lost it was at least bearable to watch

Just watching some highlights from 2009 on YouTube. Some great tries. Zeb Taia was brilliant for us that season. Such an underrated player.

Guys like Taia, DeGois, Sau, Hilder, Fa’asso and Houston had the best seasons of the their careers that year.

Imagine what Smith could do with Pearce, Pearce and Watson? I don’t know if we’d win anything but it’d be fun to watch.

Taia could do everything Fitzgibbon does in terms of line running but also make over 100m per game.

Smith was a fantastic coach for us.

Not re-signing him was literally the thing that gave us a decade of misery.

Pass, we don't need to jump to a rookie NRL coach coming from England. Sure, he coached three winning super league teams, all of them Wigan. Wigan area a powerhouse over there.

We need a seasoned NRL coach who knows how to coach NRL.
This. No rookie on a learning curve please. A seasoned hand on the tiller would be required.

Yeah, we shouldn't take a punt on another Super League coach. It didn't work out for clubs like the Roosters and Souths...

Oh wait.
their entire squad and clubs were at a totally different stage of evolution. Primed and ready for a tilt at the title. We are no where near that stage.

their entire squad and clubs were at a totally different stage of evolution. Primed and ready for a tilt at the title. We are no where near that stage.

Souths finished 10th in 2011 and when he took over in 2012, with a rookie halfback in Reynolds and not much of an improvement in the roster from the year before, finished 3rd. South Sydney were in no way, shape or form a team primed and ready for a title tilt in 2012 but a Super League coach with his first chance in the NRL took them to a preliminary final.

Roosters? A fantastic recruitment drive sure with SBW and Jennings with great under the radar buys in Maloney and Moa but those two are particularly telling of a coach with a great eye for talent. However that's just 4 players added to a team that finished 13th the year before. To think that Robinson didn't have any impact on the team through good coaching is just ludicrous and a complete denial of logic, especially as the Roosters have had continued finals success with the exception of their 2016 season being derailed by off field drama.

Is there anyone left defending Brown?

Surely management has had enough also? I don't know how much worse a new coach could possibly be... We have been dead last or there abouts for half a decade under Brown now. He got the squad he wanted but still sucked... What's his excuse now?

Would you like to take a look a few pages back Yosh and read some of the posts supporting Brown.

Looks like there are a heap of arm chair experts coming out of the woodwork the past couple weeks.

People who don't know anything about what they are talking about sprouting off and dribbling BS.

Just imagine having to share a space with them in an emergency?

I can find a few gems to share with ya Yosh.

Damn... What is that they are supporting? What good has he done? Or does Brown have multiple accounts on here?

If you don't have the skill to beat a man on man, then use the maths.

Offloads when you have multiple defenders hanging off you and are then out of play, so long as you have someone who is ready for the offload and hits it at speed or at least with some urgency. I hated BaBa, but geez he could back up and that created something from nothing.

I see TURBO Tom is doing that a heap ATM and it's paying dividends.
