As much as I query the current coach, and without stepping foot in the rooms, I do get a strong sense we have some attitude problems amongst our playing group.

Vaughan and Dufty are probably the tip of the iceberg. Lomax is obviously not made of the right stuff between the ears and our middle forwards just opened the door for Watson yesterday immediately after half time just to give a few examples.

Would like to know the whole story. No way it's as simple as just the coach.
The board appoints the coach. There's an answer.

Blaming the players is too easy.

It is just the coach. Would you expect any player issues if Bellamy or Bennett were coach? The coach controls the room or he loses.

I'm guessing here but basing on some of the on field capitulations it points to a mental feebleness of members of our team. I agree it will boil down to the coach but surely players cop an examination too. Has been happening since Bennett left and the boys swore by Mary too.

I'm not defending the coach who has made his own bed - recruiting from the nursing home and appointing assistants from the dark ages. It'd be laughable if it weren't so seriously wrong.

I'm genuinely interested to know what the coaching style/ philosophy certain players are not seeing eye to eye with.

Will this meeting lead to anything, who knows? We are probably one year and one BBQ too late on it. I'm just glad something is happening that isn't a roll over and submission.

There's loads of administration, coaches, managers, staff. At the top are the board.
The players are easy to target because they are the most visible. The head coach accepts the accolades when the team is travelling well, so it stands to reason that the coach should shoulder some of the blame when the team is losing.

But they all take their leads from the Club administration and board.

Blaming players and is like blaming the fans.
When looking for poor management, ask yourself who is running the Club and why aren't they more visible?

I agree the coach needs to shoulder it, no doubt. You'll get no argument from me but it doesn't mean the current crop are infallible.

Bennett came and brought a broom.

Whether it's this year, next year or the following, it will be interesting to see who the next coach picks and sticks with.

That wasn't really the point I was making. But with Bennett, he made it clear that he wanted total control and told certain Club admin to stay away from the players. Not all coaches can do this.

Let's make an offer to Mick Potter for 2023 & beyond.
The 'Dogs seemingly don't want him, in spite of the fact that he has turned their season around since the departure of TB.

Maybe I'm asking for trouble but I want to see Dean Young back in coach's seat at the Dragons at some point.

He is everything that Hook is not.

Passionate about the red v not just earning his keep.
Adaptable, and able to move with the times, not set on his ways
Has been part of a recent success

Did I mention he is passionate about the red v? Reckon passion would have seen us in the eight this year.

I mentioned Young as a possible successor in the Rorters game thread yesterday but I also have a lot of time for Potter. He has a history with us and won two GFs as a player with the Dogs. I know he has been out of the top flight for a while but his current short stint with the Dogs shows that he has the right stuff to get a dispirited rabble up for playing some confident, aggressive and entertaining football. Sounds tailor-made for us, then.

All I want to say is Hook was the wrong guy signed by us twice.

He is a very poor mentor and manager of the playing group. His demeanour shows a poor character of a person.

Players know how to play football, they just need a good coach who can talk to them and mentor them through good and bad times and also be able to instil discipline and the correct attitude in games. Hook to me is not that type of person.

I'll leave it at that.

SMH.. what do you expect whether it is fact or fiction about player disharmony.
They have had the knives for Griffin before he came
To say we have the worst defence is another falicy. We are not good but never let the facts get in the way..
I said a few months ago, the left field appointment of Flanno has been brought in as an insurance policy to take over if Griffo is failing... no other reason regardless of the early extension and to potentially look at recruiting his squad. Maybe Flanno has been groomed to take over more than we know.
This board meeting might not be about Griffo so much but how to hold onto Flanno before too many other opportunities come up which interestingly so far on the outside looking in he has not applied? or been considered.. wonder why?.
Then again the snap meeting might not be about coaching but be about our next big signing :)

It feels inevitable Dean Young will be head coach sometime in the future

So much for every other post where you wax lyrical about the lack of professionalism from the board and club administration.

How would appointing the son of a long term standing board member to the head coaching position be a 'professional' step for the club to take?

Seems like all we get from the Lynch mob on here is constant swings and roundabouts. We heard for years from them that we need a coach from outside the system, that happens and now it hasn't turned in to instant success as they'd all naively believed would happen it's let's get a passionate old boy in as coach 😂

Can't help but laugh at some of this stuff.

'At some point'. Read again.

Now's not the time. There will most likely come a time when he is the man for the job. He's got a potential premiership to worry about at the moment so I'm sure he isn't interested.

My point is to reclaim some of the passion that has been lost for this club. He was the last player to kiss the emblem of the Dragons. I want that kind of passion reinstated.

You're happy to see us take unnecessary steps backward in the name of a grand plan that doesn't actually exist. After a hapless decade of crap! And now it looks as though it's unravelling much to your disappointment. I for one am glad that the board meeting has been called because the current efforts have been diabolical and a stain on our club. Players, coaching staff and the board themselves have some reflecting to do. They are answerable to the stakeholders be they as impassioned as I or as forgiving as you.

For the record I've not once stated Hook should be sacked. The writing is on the wall though. #8straight2021

To be fair, aren't the bold parts what the players loved about Mary?
