Absolutely no hurry given no other teams would likely have him. But at the same time, what other options are there?

I wouldn't want Mary replaced unless there was a better candidate out there who was available. Now that Hasler and Cleary are off the table, I can't think of anyone else that would be an upgrade, especially how we've played to start the year.

Think we just need to sit tight for now

This just about sums it up perfectly and what I mentioned in another thread. Some of the carry on would have you believe we have just won the comp. We are playing well, there is plenty of confidence but we have beaten a few team well below their best. I know you can only play what's in front of you but its best to keep things in perspective.

Exactly. You also don't know what other options will become available throughout the year!

Any coaching decision for 2018 made before, at the earliest, round 16 would be silly imo.
At that time alot will depend on where we sit on the ladder, and more importantly, how the team is playing.
If we lose games like we did against parra, or if we lose a few by close margains....
If we keep playing this style i cant see us not being in the top 4 at worst by that stage...
If thats the case, and the boys are happy playing under mary and they are putting in every week then its stupid to even suggest mary will be replaced.
As for the board and CEO, ill speak for myself, i cant orchestrate anything to remove them so ill focus on the team... and the team is winning... which is what i want and id hope most fans want...
And while they are winning, ill be enjoying every weekend and walking around throughout the week smiling from ear to ear.

That's strange, I thought you've been watching the (Dragons) footy the last 5 odd years.

Straight Shooter
He has also been watching the dragons THIS year... where he finds his team sitting first with the best attack on the comp.
I can't believe you're declaring Mary a success, kid.

Straight Shooter
The team he is coaching is sitting in first place, on top of the NRL ladder, with the best attack. Again, IN 1ST PLACE!!!
It would take a moron to suggest thats not success so far.
*An inward looking board whose primary objective is to prop up their individual positions;
*a thoroughly unworthy head coach;
*one premiership in 38 years with no desire to modernise;
*mediocrity seeping through the club and seemingly even it's 'hardcore' fans;
*no to professionalism and yes to nepotism
*a democratic charter that would make N Korea proud
*debt

But don't let the above inconvenient truths dampen your 5-wins celebrations.

Straight Shooter

*That same board and CEO got us Bennett... and a premiership.
Made major f#ck ups the last 5 years but have the ship back on the right course so far.
*they GOT us a premiership in the last decade (better then alot of teams)
*the mediocrity seeping to and thru the fans is only thru negative fans such as urself.
*No to professionalism? Hmmmm, the team is coming first on the ladder are they not? I wouldnt think an unprofessional organisation would find itself able to pick itself back up and get into such a great position after 5 bad years!
*Debt? Thats a beauty... in 2010 we were making profit... in our hard years that followed fans abandoned the club.
Yes, the club made some stupid decisions, no one objects to that.
But at the end of the day clubs make money from the fans... you can blame the club for that, but the fans that walked away from the club, to a smaller extent, are also to blame for the debt.

At what point do we stop hoping for a new coach for 2018? Mary has really turned things around so you must give him credit. I was pi$$ed he stayed on and was very critical of him as a coach but happy to eat humble pie. The boys are really playing a good brand of footy. How many offloads are we seeing now, geez. They look deadly with the ball all over the park. And sorry one big plus which I hated, Saints are not resorting to grinding a win when they get a 6 or 8 point lead. They go hard in the first 25 mins. Then go through a period of defence, the end the game full throttle again. Huge credit to Mary.

Mary said last year was a huge learning curve and he has learnt from his mistakes. It is definitely showing and that is all we can ask for. We have a team that is actually a premiership threat and has the top teams looking over their shoulder. Next 4 weeks will be huge for Saints. Bring it on

Hahaha dude you mist be bordering on suicidal right now...
The inept board, useless CEO, and unworthy coach are in charge of the team coming first and are the benchmark team of the competion right now.
Hahahahahaha you must be the last guy anyone wants to hang out with over the last month.
Lol life must be so lonely right about now for you.
Let me hear you sing with me, come on, sing along.... be a sport...
"oh when the saints, Go marching in..."
Come on grumpy pants... sing along with me...
"Oh when the saints go marchiiiiiinnngg iiiiiiiinnnnnnn"

In terms of our club and professionalism they are up there as the best. The Tigers are a basket case, The Dogs retained a coach that not everyone likes and is killing their junior development. They are now looking to get rid of the Morris boys? It's clear BMoz was their for marketing purposes and after an injury or 2 want to punt him. Panthers have sacked a coach in Cleary which helped build this squad for Hook who really has not imporved just continued if not worsened Cleary's good work. Titans paying big dollars for Hayne and losing good hard working players that made them great last year, etc. Now they want to get rid of Hayne.

Saints have not had hardly any bad press for player behaviour in a long time and when they do they usually sort it out ASAP and not let it drag on. Fanou-Blake, Lafai, Nielsen. As soon as they were caught for any wrong doing, they dropped them only to make final decision once all info received or court cases finalised and then put them in first grade or sacked them.

There'll be some that never get past the last few years.

Forgetting 2014, the team McGregor had in 2015 wasn't his own, and in a way I think reaching the finals that year actually hurt McGregor last year for a few reasons.

We overachieved in 2015 on the back of grinding, defensive, boring footy. We led the dump for a while and I believe what happened is McGregor thought that was the way to success.

So come 2016 he wanted to build on 2015 using the same principles but this time under expectations from fans. But it failed miserably and was boring as hell.

This year I genuinely believe he has learnt, I'm not saying he's there yet or should be kept on as a result of 6 rounds. But if he can continue to get the team to perform like this that's what he should be judged on.

All I know is how I performed in my job year 1 wasn't as good as year 3

"*That same board and CEO got us Bennett... and a premiership." --- That same board fluked getting Bennett after Cowboys deal fell through and ALSO f@cked retaining him up.

"Made major f#ck ups the last 5 years but have the ship back on the right course so far." The first 8 words of that sentence are the only relevant ones, unless you think 6 weeks of football wipes the rest away.

"*they GOT us a premiership in the last decade (better then alot of teams)" - more by luck than good management.

"*the mediocrity seeping to and thru the fans is only thru negative fans such as urself." - Utterly stupid comment.

"*No to professionalism? Hmmmm, the team is coming first on the ladder are they not? I wouldnt think an unprofessional organisation would find itself able to pick itself back up and get into such a great position after 5 bad years!" - Its great we're coming first, but lets see how we're travelling after playing some teams who will actually be in the finals in 2017. We've beaten one - Cronulla and lost to the other - Parramatta. Our draw so far has been VERY kind.

"*Debt? Thats a beauty... in 2010 we were making profit... in our hard years that followed fans abandoned the club." Utterly stupid comment again. It was through woefully inept management that the team and club fell on lean times.

"But at the end of the day clubs make money from the fans... you can blame the club for that, but the fans that walked away from the club, to a smaller extent, are also to blame for the debt." - that's about as intelligent as blaming Blackberry customers for the fact that Blackberry failed because they didn't make phones anyone wanted to use anymore. Moronic statement.

When you wear your jersey... who are you supporting? The team, or management?
When you have footy talk at the pub, do you laugh at opposing teams fans about there teams performance or how there club is run?
For any fan to try laugh at a fan of team coming first, by trying to mock there board or CEO, now that would be moronic.
So for a fan of this great team, that is sitting pretty on top of the table, to sit there and still be sad and negative because of shit thats going on behind closed doors, dude, THATS MORONIC!!
Get the f#ck up and run for a spot on the board or just stfu!!!!
Hahaha bunch of keyboard sooks.
No one is denying shits all f#cked up at management level... but thats no reason to bag the team.
Some of us are happy our team is winning and coming first.
We are called stupid and accepting mediocrity...why? Because the board is shit and Doust is shit and mary is shit!
F#ck the board, F#ck Doust, and f@ck all management!!!
The mighty red V is winning games... is coming first... and is the bemchmark team!!!
Teams dont want to face us!!! Thats what i want as a fan!
I dont support management... i support the team champ...
Maybe a few on here should try doing that also!

Chill pills required in here.
5 wins in 6 games is not a turnaround in our fortunes it is an improved performance thus far.
5 wins in 6 games does indicate that something has changed for the better but the jury is still out on exactly what that means i.e. coach, roster, admin, exit of Marshall & Rein etc etc
5 wins in 6 games does not sweep under the carpet all the ineptitude displayed in coaching or administration since 2011.
5 wins in 6 games does not secure the coach a new contract but should ensure that he will be looked at, if continued performance is achieved.
5 wins in 6 games should give us an expectation of more to come.
5 wins in 6 games is not enough to cry success has been achieved but should be more than enough for people to ease back on the criticism and to say we are enjoyable to watch play football.
If 5 wins in 6 games is not enough to say success has been achieved nor will 6 wins in 7 games be enough but nor should 2 losses in 7 games be enough to say we have reverted to old habits.
Let's just enjoy the footy, support the players as they deserve it, be reserved in our judgement and not sit idly by waiting be able to say "I told you so".
So far footy season 2017 for me has been enjoyable and that is a real plus.

The last line says it all OT.
Its great to finally be able to enjoy the footy again. We shouldnt be wasting these wins worrying that a loss is coming soon.
Enjoy the sweetness of victory while its here.
Enjoy supporting a team thats winning while they are winning.
Why sook about things that may or may not happen (wheels fall off and we miss the 8)
Enjoy the Good times while they are good.

Not to get bogged down in the 'I'm a better fan' contest, but the above section, particularly that quoted, is rubbish dude. For starters, fans flocking away can be attributed directly to the decisions of our management. Secondly, the well-run clubs (off the field) don't get their money from fans, but from commercial acumen in their boardroom and business models developed this century!
For example, Roosters/Manly with their business partnership, Souffs with their ownership model, Warriors/Broncos through utilising their location (although they have some unfair advantages), Raiders and Sharks through their property development processes, Dogs through their leagues-club funding model, and so on. We are doing better than Tigpies in this regard, and that probably about it (Knights and Titans are pretty shoddy but they are on the repair, admittedly through force).

Don't buy into the clubs 'blame everyone else' governance structure, they alone are responsible for our financial situation through their poor footy-related decisions and lack of business nous to do what is best for the club.
