Assuming the momentum to oust Mary continues, who would replace him?

Who is on the market and what is the likelihood of them signing?

Unrealistic scenario snagging Bellamy but yes, if it was possible.
Of course you need a premier coach for a club that is supposed to be one of the iconic clubs in the comp.
But if we awake from the dream we can categorically dismiss Barrett and look at other contenders.
Jason Demetriou, Geoff Toovey and Craig Fitzgibbon would all be a massive upgrade on what we have now.
I say, take your pick. All three are excellent options.
My personal preference is Demetriou and I am pretty sure he has a clause in his contract with Souths that would make him available if a FG gig became available.
Toovey and Fitzgibbon are both available also.
Griffin, Henry, Smith, Sheens are all past their best and cannot take us to a premiership.
I also want to say that I don't accept the "rookie coach" argument because you just can't compare McGregor's credentials with either Demetriou or Fitzgibbon.
That appointment and two subsequent extensions have basically wasted 6 years of the clubs endeavours.
The other major consideration is what interference the Board will want to impart on a new coach.
Cleary cut off talks because of conditions being imposed.

That article suggested Bellamy. Yes we can dream, but he is under contract until 2021. I think the NRL brought a new rule in last year, meaning that a club can not approach a coach currently under contract, with more than 12 months to go. It was done to stop another Ivan Cleary or Des Hasler scenario.

Of coaches not currently coaching an NRL team, Flanagan would be my pick, but I don't know how long he will stay deregistered for. Now of the others fill me with any real optimism. Toovey and Griffen could be the pick of them. I would like to see Demetriou given a chance.

The thing for me is that we've had a lot of disappointment under McGregor, but even when we were going 'good' I never really had full on belief in the team. And each time my feelings were confirmed by a massive let down. I struggle to think of many games where we put in a near perfect performance with him as coach, in all the many years he's been in charge, especially up against a great team in strong form. I challenge anyone to find one. The best win was that one in the semi last year, or the game where we smashed Melbourne with Aitken of all people running rings around them.
The semi was won by our back row who took advantage of both Gillet and Glenn both being out injured.
Nothing to do with Mary which is why he was so surprised.

How do you dissect a teams performance over a year and not discuss the coach?
I'm moving beyond the coaching. The whole coaching regime has to go but this board and management is the issue. They'll get around replacing McGregor but only after a business decision on filling the position at the least amount of dollars to find someone that can continue the Mary legacy of almost/probably/sorry couldn't make it past rd 1 of the semis

Seems like Mary and the board doesn't think the fans are serious. In order to prompt McGregor to do the honorable thing and take a sweet payout I hereby proclaim that the entire Dragons coaching staff is:

1: banned from Capt Cook Bridge and Rocky Point Road. You can use Tom Ugly's to get to Kogarah Oval

2: mushroom prints on sight if we see you at Kogarah or Rockdale Stations and thinking of extending the ban to Hurstville

3: don't even think about the 476 bus and based on your past few years as a coach we know you are a tenacious and sneaky f### so don't get cute and try to park at Miranda and sneak on the 477

4 any other transport routes that Sack McGregor thread regulars deem fit

Next agenda item is try your best not to have your dollars go to this organization until they are worthy of being the caretakers of the club.

Wow..... l remember taking the 476 bus to school back in the early 70's.

Even the old bus stop hasn't changed in 50 years!

Footnote- sorry to veer off topic.

Anyone other than the 3 stooges currently with their noses in the pigs trough. I do not mind if it's an ex player as long as they have gained coaching experience from the outside. So Fitzgibbon, Ryles, Barrett could be considered.
But my first pick would be Justin Holbrook from ESL as he seems to have form and credentials. 2nd pick would be Griffin based on his strong background in developing junior talent.
P.S. really cannot see Jason Demetriou returning to our club based on how he was knifed & treated.

Not off topic we follow our team for the memories . We associate them with the good and bad times of our lives they are our men's shed for the footy season our get away from reality and the baton we pass on to the kids this is why we get so passionate when we see them reduced to what they are now no not off topic !!!!

He ain’t going anywhere, give up guys. How about a thread to sack Johnston? Let’s all sign up as St George members and vote to ensure that he’s gone in 3 years time. Then and only then do we stand a chance of smashing this boys club and getting rid of this coach.

That’s the problem.who replaces him.the way our boys club think it will be a rookie or someone with limited coaching resume .we all know who I’m talking about.why not bring back Brian Smith .hes good for about 3 years until the players start revolting.can bring youth through the system.and can revitalise players who have gone stale under previous so called coaches.move him on after 3 years.sure we won’t win a competition but he will lay the foundations for the next coach who is not a former player.

If we keep averaging around 150 posts on this thread a day like yesterday we will hit 20,000 by Grand Final day.
But it achieves nothing.
You could get a million posts by GF and it means nothing. Its an internet fan forum which means nothing to the club.
Facebook and Instagram mean more.

It has to be a professional coach. I think we should even be prepared to look at English coaches rather than some of the rabble so far suggested. JD would be a pinch suggestion but again, has not had a first grade gig. He certainly seems to have the right attitude, but we do not want to be in the same boat 12 months down the track.

Barrett, Young, and Hornby need to be completely struck off the list
