But you know Gareth I will keep saying it. The cupboard out there is losing stock. the Super clubs that are cash strapped with 3rd party arrangements will constantly have the best squads (e.g. deals with betting agencies and TV). You see how much Tedesco is popping up on TV advertising lately.
They will buy and retain the better players but it is stretching thin. Roosters & Souths, Melb, Brisbane, Warriors and maybe Newcastle, Eels, Sharks? & Penrith are well funded.
Lets look at the teams who are looking and need to rebuild sectons of their rosters including depth and getting rid of a lot of current 1st graders to elsewhere.
Us, Tigers, Titans, Dogs, Manly, Eels, Cowboys..just for starters. If all the players that are supposed to be getting shipped out to god knows where or apparently not up to scrtach....
Where are all the replacement players going to come from?. No one wants reserve graders.
Super League is the only other as not enough junior talent to really fill the void.
Players via managers dont care..as long as they are getting 1st grade big $$$ somewhere around the globe. Talent can only go so far when junior numbers are dwindling

We are fastly becoming a NRL mimic competition to the Super League regardless of a so called even salary cap. NRL will be about a reduced 10 team survivor comp (forget the lower stuff and rest) the way we are going in time, how and where the money is spent by NRL to run and maintain 1st grade product to attract TV money.

Look at the Weidler article $15K spent on Cam Smiths posh 400 celebration dinner. What is wrong with hiring out a function room at a local hotel for 20% of that cost for 30 people including budget flights

Sunday rant over...off to do my thing for our club and CRL..and a few tit bits from the Mary coaching manual.
Have a good day all!

Great post and very hard to disagree with what you have said. Those who push expansion never explain where the extra first grade standard players will come from.

One thing I will say is that if you look at the most successful teams, they don’t really have any depth. Depth in the modern game doesn’t matter. What matters is having 3 or 4 of the best players in key positions and hoping that they don’t get injured/suspended etc.

In reality Roosters, Melbourne et al. are 2 or 3 injuries away from the bottom 8 compared to top 4

I simply don't get this. Am I missing something.

The Coach has openly said he has the team he wants. He has built this squad for the past six years.

Yes we have some injuries and suspensions but guess what, so do other clubs and they are playing better than us.

We still have the second most Origin reps this year but can't even compete in games let alone win them.

I will go as far to say if Widdop is not in our team the past four years we run bottom four each year.

I could Coach this squad of exceptional talent better than what has been happening.

I actually don't blame Mary, if my employer pays me well and gives me a two year extension for being a good guy and having the best job u could think of, well guess what, I am signing on the bottom line.

The idiots who made this extension decision yet again are the ones probably doing the review and they will justify there own existence by looking after there own decisions.

This entire situation smells of utter bullish!t.

Rant over.

It's a premeditated spin and lip service exercise for the sake of the fans.
They had it all worked out when they extended McGregor but it has already backfired.
If we continue to perform poorly (and it sure looks that way), the media will jump on board and really stir the pot.
In my opinion, Johnston and the Board are painting themselves into a corner.
Fancy having a performance review is not a topic of discussion.
Again, this review may culminate in yet another patronizing snub of the fans.
"We know best>McGregor is the best man for the job>Shut up and keep stumping up your hard earned cash you idiot fans AND to all you "keyboard warriors", how dare you criticize the coach and the way we are running the club"
Disgraceful, unforgivable attitude towards the fans.
Johnston the Joke..
Maybe the board wants this happening Denis there could be an agenda look how quite it is there is nothing stirring from the Illawarra mafia or St George board oh wait a minute they don’t have a voice it’s all controlled by the Illawarra Mafia

Reading Johnston's comments today, the board are delusional. Apparently sacking the coach is 'simplistic'.

Then he describes the process of reappointing McGregor earlier in the year. My blood boiled reading this b#llsh*t.

It wasn't just a case of renewing the coach, you go through a process," Johnston said.

"We reviewed all potential coaches that were on the market or in the business of coaching in Australia and overseas. We looked at what would become available in the next few years as well.

And after that, they chose McGregor. F#ck$ing morons.

Actually he could have saved time if he just read McGregor's CV and coaching credentials properly.
Not one other club official from any other club would have come up with the same conclusion as Johnston and the Board.
A quick phone call to Bennett would have made a decision easy.
We are a laughing stock and the other clubs are just so happy we are managed the way we are because we are one less horse in the race.

On Triple M today a fan called and nailed it... one thing he said that I’ve heard before i# that McGregor doesn’t listen to his team and we know what happened to J Dimitrou who was undoubtedly too vocal.

So, it may be that Hornby and Young are actually OK but cannot have enough influence.

All in all McGregor is Dragons enemy #1 as far as I’m concerned and he has to go.
