That penalty he gave away in around the 65th minute which lead to the Smith try won them the game. He had just done an okayish kick to pin them in their half and then he decided to put his hand on that Melbourne guys face after being warned.

Gidley was fired up tonight, his passion during the opening was fantastic. Its great to be passionate and to try and lead the team as a captain but to make a game turning penalty for something as stupid as that is hard to forgive.

I actually thought he started the game really well. But his 2nd stint was terrible and you could argue he alone cost us the game.

Any other player would get dropped after this start to the year aside from probably Mullen and Boyd. He can't possibly have too many lives left.

He's getting by on reputation alone ATM. Truth be told I laugh at the bulldogs because they have a bloke named T Rex but at the moment I'd probably trade Gids for T Rex

Does anyone really think that Bennett will actually pull the trigger, I just don't see it. He had the chance to leave Clydesdale on the field for an extended period but chose not to, Gids is still his "goto" guy.

Plus the grand weakness with Mids as CEO is that he will never pull the trigger.

Look at the Dogs, they are proving to be ruthless in excising their recruitment mistakes i.e Trex or Kasiano.

Like what has been said, I thought his first stint on the field was OK, but his second was very ordinary. It was basically the opposite of Uate. Uate improved later in the game, but was ordinary at the start.

I could handle having Gidley in the team if he was on around 200K. But the fact that he is making over half a million per year is ridiculous considering what he offers. If he got asked to go, I would be thrilled. We could buy a quality rep player and challenge for the title.

I feel for the guy. His time has come but he doesn't deserve the shit he is copping in here.

Bennett(and thus Boyd) signing for us was the death knell for him and I think he has done everything right by the club since then. Unfortunately he doesn't have the talent to make it work but I think he is a great clubman.

When is he contracted to?

In Gidley's defence he has 45 in my DreamTeam. He might hit the negatives though if they haven't added the point penalties for penalties conceded.

The end of next year. I agree with you to some extent... but it's hard for me to put it so nicely after that display.

It was a very ill thought out decision at the time to sign a 29 year old with no obvious position to a big money 4 year deal and we're reaping the rewards for it now

Agreed. The sackgidley thing is a bit embarrassing really.

As I've said in another thread, Gidley won't be going anywhere until he wants to. The only hate he gets is on this forum.

Save for an 18 month period when he first went to fullback he's never been that good. He's always been an over enthusiastic guy who makes more mistakes than he does good things. He shone when we had a terrible side because at least he was trying. That's not enough anymore.
