FORMER Parramatta Eels supremo Denis Fitzgerald has offered to make a comeback to help resolve the club?s latest administration and salary cap scandal.

The man known as The Emperor, who is now 66, told The Daily Telegraph the Eels needed his experience from 30 years as chief executive.
?Parramatta has been a major part of my life for 40 years as a player and an administrator,? Fitzgerald said, ?I?d be happy to come back and do whatever is required.
?I think they need some experience and that?s what I?ve got in abundance.
?I could be an acting CEO or a consultant or in whatever role is necessary.?
After nine years as a player and 30 as CEO, Fitzgerald was unceremoniously thrown out of office seven years ago when a boardroom takeover led to his sacking.

He will not comment on the current Parramatta Eels administration because he is involved in an upcoming court case against the club over an alleged breach of his deed of release.
?All I want to add is that the club is still dear to my heart and it would appear obvious the board needs some experienced help and assistance,? Fitzgerald said.

Despite his abrupt exit from the club, Fitzgerald still enjoys the support of long-time Parramatta fans and key figures at the NRL.
Parramatta?s latest issues have been uncovered in a Daily Telegraph investigation into third party payments which revealed player sponsors were being offered free corporate hospitality.

The NRL is now investigating payments to their former superstar Jarryd Hayne, Will Hopoate and Ben Smith.
The investigation found the Eels altered the contract of a sporting goods supplier to free up money for the company to pay players on behalf of the club.
Pressure is increasing on chairman Steve Sharp to resign, to pave the way for Fitzgerald to return.
The NRL and its integrity unit continues to closely monitor the latest developments.

Short memory, must have a .....

Life in circa 2007-2009 was pretty ordinary merkin. The club was in debt and morale was very low. We stunk and could not attract a decent player no matter how much you threw at them.

Couldn't guarantee our survival beyond five years at around that time too. Was way to outspoken in his last few years in reign too.

Fitzy hiring Hagan without any concentration from anyone sent us on the downward spiral, for that reason alone he should be nowhere near the club. Let alone the BS he has pulled since his getting the arse.

Maybe for the board/Leagues Club but on field and for the fans it was great for 2 of those 3 years. Manly were in a similar position in the years following. Turmoil off field but great on field results. Their fans loved it too.

The Fitz article brings the picture of recent events into pretty clear focus now. This is obviously a move. Leaking the minutes and all the information leaks to the media, then Fitz coming in and offering to "help" in this difficult time, that he more than likely had a hand in.

I hate the fact that I have to put disclaimers on my posts, but here goes. I don't mean that he did the salary cap/TPA stuff, nor am I saying he made it up. I'm saying he got his hands on board minutes and them handed them to the media, along with probably every other piece of insider info that has made the club look bad in recent time. All with the sole purpose of setting up his attempt at reclaiming his "throne".

You know what motion I would like to see put forward at the next AGM? That no person who has previously held a board or executive position (CEO) are allowed to serve on the board again, ever. This includes the current sitting board.

We need a completely fresh start, where the possibility of the older guys coming back is completely removed, so they can finally go away once and for all, and we can start moving forward and getting back to being the strong club and successful team we once were.

If we could achieve that, you watch how fast the Parra news story well dries up.

100%. Designed to trigger a social media ground swell of "he's gotta go" and "just sack the lot of them".

So it's worked well so far.

Interesting to see Ben Smith's name tied into the questionable TPA deals too.

Wonder how "loyal" Ben's court case against the club is coming along?

Maybe he should put together a ticket with Hoppa for the next board elections...

The article claims he still enjoys the support of key figures at the NRL... imagine if Fitzy ended up being one of the NRL-appointed Independent Board Members at the Eels .

Totally agree with you, it's been highly effective so far.

It may even get to the point where it's like the club is being held to ransom, you know, "Put me back in or the leaks will keep happening" kind of thing.
