FORMER Parramatta Eels supremo Denis Fitzgerald has offered to make a comeback to help resolve the club?s latest administration and salary cap scandal.
The man known as The Emperor, who is now 66, told The Daily Telegraph the Eels needed his experience from 30 years as chief executive.
?Parramatta has been a major part of my life for 40 years as a player and an administrator,? Fitzgerald said, ?I?d be happy to come back and do whatever is required.
?I think they need some experience and that?s what I?ve got in abundance.
?I could be an acting CEO or a consultant or in whatever role is necessary.?
After nine years as a player and 30 as CEO, Fitzgerald was unceremoniously thrown out of office seven years ago when a boardroom takeover led to his sacking.
He will not comment on the current Parramatta Eels administration because he is involved in an upcoming court case against the club over an alleged breach of his deed of release.
?All I want to add is that the club is still dear to my heart and it would appear obvious the board needs some experienced help and assistance,? Fitzgerald said.
Despite his abrupt exit from the club, Fitzgerald still enjoys the support of long-time Parramatta fans and key figures at the NRL.
Parramatta?s latest issues have been uncovered in a Daily Telegraph investigation into third party payments which revealed player sponsors were being offered free corporate hospitality.
The NRL is now investigating payments to their former superstar Jarryd Hayne, Will Hopoate and Ben Smith.
The investigation found the Eels altered the contract of a sporting goods supplier to free up money for the company to pay players on behalf of the club.
Pressure is increasing on chairman Steve Sharp to resign, to pave the way for Fitzgerald to return.
The NRL and its integrity unit continues to closely monitor the latest developments.
