Seward was just on MMM.

He explained that this was all about the clean up from 2010-2013 and that the NRL are happy with our 2015/16 position yet Matty continued with the club being a basket case and that Foran must now find it difficult to move there.

What a f**king merkin.

Or it was - once he has played (assuming he is 2nd tier) he is free to play again all year and we needed to have at least one back up half available to us.
Yep - given we had one last chance for the year to use a 2nd tier player not already used, with Sandow's form/frigility (and game day car incident) a coach would have rocks in his head if he didn't qualify the back-up halfback for use in first grade for the rest of teh season.

Good job BA, we have to hold the team together until the club can sort through the previous administration's bullshit.

f**king hell, on a break but thought i would say this.

The front office is responsible for the f**k up no matter how one can spin it.

Yes Stuart was a major part of it, but the board that hired him should walk.
They did Ron... well the members finally made 3P take a walk!

What Seward is ignoring in these public statements, and what will piss the nrl off, is that while the problems may have started because of sackings by Ricky et al and paying players at other clubs, the thing that actually put us over the cap was selections and recruitment in 2014.

He and sharp have made a series of shit statements about it all being other people's fault.

It isn't. It's a combination of the Ricky Stuart debacle (may well be one of the factors which motivated him to f**k off) but then our management in 2014.

And the suggestion that all is rosy for next year and no problems begs the question why the nrl would need to impsoae the suspended 4 competition points for next year if this year and next are perfect?

what are you talking about you dribbler???? This was all last year.
Yeah.... because contracts that effect salary cap a given year aren't signed mostly in the years before, or anything
Yes we know Spag's and Ricky blew the cap out but they were warned last year and didn't heed the warnings. Just because the clowns before made mistakes doesn't absolve the present mob f**king up as well.
Contract law (applying to the previously signed contracts) overrides the ability to "heed warnings" or take action. Especially when a chunk of those previously signed contracts was still being paid to players that he been released to other clubs.

As others have said, with injuries last year we may not have been able to field 17 players week to week without breaching the cap. Still worthy of a fine - thanks to the previous administration's mess - but worth noting NRL gave no concerns re our current state or ability to go forward with signings for next season like Foran and Scott. Current mob are managing it well.

Oh here we go, exactly what I was just saying (and that Emjaycee had said yesterday)...

From Today's SMH:

"A host of current and former Eels players have been caught up in the cap mess through no fault of their own but the NRL honed in particularly on Parramatta's actions in fielding Junior Paulo, Taniela Lasalo and David Gower last year.

All three were not in the top-25 players but Parramatta, in such a hole at one point head coach Brad Arthur had only 16 players at his disposal, were elevated into the top grade against NRL warnings of a pending second-tier breach.

The Eels believe the Lasalo case deserves revisiting because of its circumstances. His $60,000 salary was automatically added to their bursting second-tier cap when he featured for four minutes against North Queensland in round eight. He was called in at the last minute when Mitchell Allgood, having suffered concussion the previous round, complained of a headache before kick-off. Parramatta claim that because they were in Townsville they had no other alternative and were looking after Allgood's welfare."

I agree he needs to keep those conversations behind closed doors, but what he's insinuating are welfare issues that may have forced us to select a player when we had no choice like the allgood example above (just realised someone posted it lol )

What a mess.

I don't understand how we are at risk of losing 4 points NEXT season? Why wouldn't that apply for this year?
Because it's only meant to serve as a deterrent - to us and other clubs.

As Dave Smith/NRL have said, this is not cheating... it's about our ongoing management of the cap (down largely to decisions/contracts made by previous adminsitrations).

We're still getting the Club out of that massive hole created on the watch of Spags, 3P, Osborne, Kearney, Bentley, Stuart...

Also should we be asking what would have happened if Hayne had stayed this year?
We would likely had to lose/not pay a couple of minor players to stay under the cap.

All thanks to the previous contracts, backloading etc that put the current administration in this position. This is likely why NRL disallowed our signing of Israel Folau back in the day. Our current administration approached the NRL about all this when they discovered the cap mess, and have been working with them since (some have said on a weekly basis).

Blame where it's due - Price/Kenny/Grothe (for getting 3P's foot in the door), Spags and 3P, Osborne, Kearney, Bentley, Stuart.

exactly, Bart will try and blame 3p for all the ill's in the world but the fact is they knew our cap was f**ked last year but failed to rectify it. They didn't get us into this mess but failed to get us out of it as well. The only reason we were happy to see Hayne go was our cap was so f**ked. As BF said how much shit would we be in for this season if he was still here??? No wonder we never really bothered to replace him.

Sharpy has been in since May 2013, he was here in the great projector purge of 2013, not saying it was his idea but his crew have been in since then. We all know how 3P f**ked things up, but Ando knew as far back as 2013 and we were continually warned if you believe Dave Smith why are the current administration not responsible for anything that has happened since then??? Will it still be Spag's fault in 2017 if we are still struggling with the cap and bottom of the ladder???

Sounds like the present board are just as happy to pass the buck as the last two did.

Maybe jarryd knew and took one for the team?

Someone actually said something similar to this to me not long after Hayne left, that Parra had salary cap issues so Hayne left for a year (I didn;t believe it) - when all the conspiracy theories were thrown up about why he really left. I can't remember who said it and they prob had no credibility anyway...but interesting nonetheless.
