It is understood that the Eels salary cap breaches go back as far as 2009, the year the club made the NRL grand final.

The Daily Telegraph understands they only came to light when football manager Daniel Anderson joined the club and noticed some discrepancies.

Dave Smith said so in the official statement:

"Mr Smith said the NRL had worked proactively to try to help the club avoid breaching the caps. The club had been given multiple warnings that it was in danger of breaching the caps but did not take sufficient steps to address the non-compliance."

The NRL took aim at what they call mismanagement "largely by previous administrations", however they said the club had been warned on multiple occasions last year not to play particular players because of pending cap breaches and that advice was ignored.

It says not to play players.

It does sound pretty dumb, given the extent to which we went over the 2nd tier cap.....even if that was originally on the part-salaries of players no longer at the Eels.

I guess we thought we would only breach the 2nd tier cap, and said 'f**k it' we'll pay the fine.

BA picks the team and played these players. So he must also think he is above the law.

I love how everyone on here were happy to blame Ribot and point the finger at the Bellamy when the Storm were cheating and rightfully so. But when we do it it has nothing to do with our coach or current admin, even though the breaches were for 2013 and 2014 - the year they were in charge.

Spag's and Ricky are at fault for blowing the cap out, but last year is on the current admin, they were told not to play certain play certain players and did so anway. If we don't lose points we are getting lightly IMO.


And one small mistake could cost us 4 points for next year, who fault will that be???? Clowns the lot of them.
