I guess as long as the big market teams get looked after that's a good result for all concerned :|

Every other club should get whatever the difference is between 500k and surgess' actual salary (excluding third party) on their cap. It's the only way for this to be fair.

Fox Sports reporting he's going to be the highest paid player ever.

If that's true (which I doubt), how the hell are the Rabbits going to accommodate that under the salary cap at this late stage - will have to be at least 2 very good players let go, probably 3 if they have to pay a portion of their contract, which is likely.

It's being reported he's on $1.5 million a year - as if. Rabbits want him but not that badly.

No doubt we'll release a few players, .

But those placed will be still need to be replaced the squad. Release some nuffy on 200k but you still need replace them with at least a minimum wage player, so not all the funds are freed up

Packer's involved with this mob now isn't he?

Will likely head to the Macau casino and "win" half a million. Lucky guy!!

$85k now I think for minimum wage, the whole thing smacks of a very eneven playing field, first souths miraculiosly can fit him in this late, then Manly and Parra are rumoured to be chasing Walker. Seriously, Manly have bought a stack of players, and Parra are paying Foran a motza, plus sign Scott and Gordon, those caps must be like souths.

And some clubs are quite simply atrocious at managing theirs.

But there is definitely an imbalance.

1.5m would be reasonable, he's the difference between whimpering out of the finals and a premiership.

Haha all good mate, it's never anything personal.

Some of the stuff from the Bunnies fans in here is just the most hilarious stuff I've ever read. Like how leaving a club part-way through a contract isn't disloyal. Then even if it is, it's just like cheating on your partner with a random from the pub. As long as you explain to them that they're your No.1 afterwards and no one cares, pretty sure it doesn't count as cheating at all! I'll run that past the mrs.

Then some of them (not all, to be fair) are saying they won't have to shed much more than a well past it Tim Grant to fit Burgess in. Yeah, because there was a rainy day salary cap fund just sitting there, right? And if England had won the World Cup and Burgess stayed on, Souths would have been $1m minus said well past it Tim Grant's contract under the cap?

McQueen most likely leaving too!

Tim grant, if some sports sites are to be believed, is on 350k a season at the rabbitohs. Souths signed him early in 2014 when he was still in first grade at panthers and it was still 18 months or so since he played origin. Between now and then he has had almost a season in panthers reserve grade, and an up and down season with us and it's now been 3 and a half seasons since he played origin. I can see how'd you'd think he is on peanuts.
If Souths could get parramatta to take him for 150k-200k (fair price for him i reckon) then that's 150k-200k cap room cleared up (we'd still have to pay out the remainder of his contract, on our cap, essentially paying a couple hundred grand for a player at another club, but it'd be worth it to fit in sam).

Correct Diego.

Aren't 3rd party deals a maximum of $30k?

Don't they have to have no contact / official sponsorship with the club the player represents, effectively a silent sponsor.

Are 15-20 business' prepared to do that?

Very fishy!

Having said that, I certainly don't believe all I read, so who knows what the real $ are...but if a significant number of players don't have to leave, it is fishy.

Let's just see what happens before a final say is had on the subject
