Stopping Folau from signing from with Parra was one of the most disgraceful fu**ups the game has ever come up with.

It was disgraceful. An absolute mess and thank god Schubert lost his job shortly after.

True but sbw laid the way and we just have to live with the fact that money talks, rather than hate on it get on the front foot with it and use it to lure the best players of any code to NRL. I'm sure his experience of the RUWC wasn't what he thought it would be and was also a factor.

Whinge all we want, until RL offers international opportunities at least in the same ballpark as RU it will continue.

Some people think Internationals have no meaningful future for the NRL's prosperity, but they couldn't be further from the truth. They compare to the NFL, and say that should be our aim. But it's not a valid comparison. The NFL is not only the only major contact football sport in the US, but it's the only sport of it's kind in the world. There is no competition for it's athletes. An NFL star can't pack up and go to France for bigger money or opportunity.

Which is why the only valid comparison for Rugby League is Union. We should aim to be playing test matches in front of big crowds all over Aus, NZ, the UK, France, Ireland, and eventually further. Because that's the draw that pulls our best athletes away from the NRL.

Was a flop in Union and clearly didn't fit in there. Big boost for Souths as Burgess is one of the best players in the game.

The following is from the NRL's website -

Walker won't make way for Burgess: Souths

Fri 06 Nov, 2015, 10:29am
AAP

Dylan Walker won't be moved aside to accommodate the return of Sam Burgess to South Sydney, according to Rabbitohs boss John Lee.

Burgess' return to the Rabbitohs was announced on Friday, just two days after Walker fronted the Souths board to answer questions over the prescription drug overdose he suffered in September alongside Aaron Gray.
Recent speculation surrounding Burgess' return from English rugby club Bath was met with conjecture over whether Walker would be moved on to make room in the salary cap.

However, Lee is adamant the former Kangaroos centre and 2014 premiership winner isn't on his way out of the club.

"I really want to make it clear publicly today that we did have a matter following the season with the hospitalisation of Aaron (Gray) and Dylan ... but we're not talking about releasing one individual or another person at this stage," Lee told Sky Sports Radio.

"There is some work to be done to make sure we have Sam totally within the cap, but as you know before the end of the season Glenn Stewart was released."

Souths coach Michael Maguire backed his chief executive's stance.
"I don't know anything about that (Walker leaving), as far as I know he's got a year's contract with us," Maguire told Triple M.

"At the moment we're still looking at what needs to happen there (in regards to the salary cap). We haven't got anything to tell and it's going to take a bit of time to work through.

"These sorts of things are a changing environment all the time."
Lee, however, could not confirm whether other players would be forced to move on.

Back-rower Chris McQueen is one player who might make way for Burgess.
"There is some room but there is a little bit more work to be done," Lee said.

"There will be a timing issue here where we have to re-examine our roster and look to see what is firmly in place for the seasons 2016 and 2017 onwards."

if walker does get forced out to accommodate burgess, i guess it really is a case of "you snooze, you lose"

Sunrise said the deal will make burgess the highest paid player in the game. Pinch of salt and all but he won't be cheap in any case. South's will need to shift some talent for this not to stink to high heaven.
Even if he is on 1.5 mill a year it doesn't mean that is 1.5 under the cap. His cap number willbe 700-1m. After releasing Glenn Stewart we clearly have the lions share of that space. Maybe a fringe player like Grant has to be shafted. But we're not losing anyone like Walker.
So loyal that he left them.

And sometimes your missus is going to have a fling with a bloke she meets at the pub. He isn't as good looking, he isn't as fun, she doesn't love him like she loves you, but when you have lobster every day sometimes you just get an urge for some kebab. But after the fling she knows she belongs at home.

Just like Sam knows he belongs with us after his little fling with union.

Sam is coming home.

We'll see how things pan out.

...
Confident about top 8, not so much if we can go farther. Like others said 2014 can't exactly be recreated, but we can sure as hell try.

This will be interesting, even without Burgess coming back I would have predicted Souths will have a better season as they were obviously overcooked this season and the coach will have learned from his mistakes.

The other questions are:-
1) Will GI get back to full fitness/form?
2) What will be the impact of losing Luke?

Burgess will certainly improve the side, but I am not convinced he alone is the difference between top 8 and a place in the G/F.

And if Sam wanders off for a few games of Hybrid rugby??

I'm picturing RL and RU busting out a few harbour bridge high-fives (or would it be London Bridge?)

The loss of Isaac Luke will be reduced by the pickup of Damien Cook. The Dogs were mad to release him. Their best hooker.

Can the rest of LU have a bet with you that Walker will be leaving? Like if he does, you don't post again for a year...and if he doesn't, we all adopt Bunnies avatars?

That analogy stunk like three week left out in the sun lobster, incidentally. Absolutely awful.

Haha all good mate, it's never anything personal.

Some of the stuff from the Bunnies fans in here is just the most hilarious stuff I've ever read. Like how leaving a club part-way through a contract isn't disloyal. Then even if it is, it's just like cheating on your partner with a random from the pub. As long as you explain to them that they're your No.1 afterwards and no one cares, pretty sure it doesn't count as cheating at all! I'll run that past the mrs.

Then some of them (not all, to be fair) are saying they won't have to shed much more than a well past it Tim Grant to fit Burgess in. Yeah, because there was a rainy day salary cap fund just sitting there, right? And if England had won the World Cup and Burgess stayed on, Souths would have been $1m minus said well past it Tim Grant's contract under the cap?

Given burgesses fame at the moment you'd think third parties would be lined up to use his image. I suspect Souths would be paying him less than half of the $1.5mill on the salary cap

I'm going to be the biased souths fan here and try explain how souths can fit him in.
There was always speculation sam might come back after a year, souths always had contingencies in place in case he didn't make the world cup squad. Souths lost 2 high earning players in luke and glenn Stewart and didn't have any players coming in. There were some upgraded contracts though. After it was made clear that burgess was going to be selected for England, souths were heavily linked to both robbie Farah and taupau. Until about 3 weeks ago souths were a good chance of landing taupau. When burgess looked to be having problems with union, we picked up the much cheaper cook (who despite a handful of breakout performances after lichaa's injury, is still a nsw cup hooker) instead of farah (thank god), and dropped out of the race to sign taupau. That still doesn't get souths all the way, mcqueen looks set for Titans freeing up a couple hundred grand in the cap, and grant (who despite his form is on good money) will free up some more.
The loyalty thing is crap. If he was loyal he would of stayed at Souths. But his coming back now so all will be forgiven
