It has been reported that big Sam is on $600k at the storm and they are willing to put in $500k so our cost would be $100k.
Would he sign for just one year, doubt it, We would be stupid to take him even for one year, just wait and see what happens with other teams.
I read somewhere where we only have 200$ in the bank so why would we waste half of it on that grub

Millward said our recruitment is not complete, he is after one very good outside back but not in a hurry. This would indicate that there is more than 200k in the cap. Since that time we have De Belin stood down with a credit to our cap of about 600k from the NRL. Then if McInnes leaves there is possibly another 600k if Millward is smart with negotiations with the Eels.

On the other side of the ledger would be an upgrade to Robson's contract, maybe 100k for Kasiano for 2019 and the recruitment of a good outside back prior to June 30.

I say no & I don’t care if Melbourne are tipping in some of his salary. The likes of Kerr, Lawrie, Host & Luc give me cause to believe that we have the forward depth needed provided the selection & rotation is fixed(don’t start me on that).
I don't see Kasiano's recruitment as a threat to the future development of Kerr, Lawrie, Host & Luc. Kerr and Lawrie would compete with Kasiano for the 4 prop spot and for replacement of a prop vacancy through injured / fatigued / rep duties.

Host and Leilua are not effected as they are backrowers.

The props mainly effected would be Latimore and Allgood who are depth only value.

Possm, this is not guaranteed and there are a few hurdles to jump before we can begin to think about being compensated by the NRL, some being;

1. Whether the club accepts the ruling (and player) and has put in place reformation programs that assist all its players, and
2. Whether the club can afford the salary cap relief, based on current excess and future position over the cap, and
3. Whether we actually apply for salary cap relief.

The fact is that we have excess funds, which the amount is debatable, which we have held over for our 30th player. If it is around the 200k mark, then that leads us to think it would be a DS player, or a player signed to an ISP contract being promoted based on their 1st half of season performances.

Again, IF it is McInnes wanting out then yes some of that would go to securing a substantial increase to Robson's contract. The balance has to be split between 2 incoming or promoted players.

I am sure James Graham will be putting his 2 bob in whether he is worth the punt or not seeing they were teammates for a while. If James Graham rates him I am sure Saints will get him. Typical Saints type of buy, cheap and with some potential.

The pressure is on those clubs that are over the salary cap. We don't need to rush. The fact that they are offering $500k with Kasiano shows how desperate they are.

I would wait to see which other clubs are over the salary cap. We can lowball offers to the right player and get the club to makeup any shortfall.

Maybe we could get Curtis Scott from Melbourne?

Not necessarily. Lock/prop are pretty interchangeable as middle forwards. Kasiano would definitely impede someone like Lawrie, who has shown very good signs.
As for taking place of Latimore & Allgood then Kasiano becomes depth. On 500/600k that’s a pretty expensive depth player.

Not when you are paying potentially $100k that is a bargain...

Tonight should give us an indication if we've got enough depth in the front row

The Charity Shield did not increase my confidence regarding the strength of our pack but Kasiano is not the answer. Three years ago maybe but he secured little if any first grade time last year. He is a player from a bygone era in the game. No thanks.

I can agree with you on this however, in the absence of an alternative prop being available. The Charity Shield game showed us that Mary will not be looking outside of his prop rotation that he used last year. Kerr did not get a run, Timm got very few minutes while Lawrie and Latimore who's talents/standards are very well known were used for long minutes.

I have absolutely no confidence in Mary to make the correct selection decisions based on the needs of the team and the players in form.
