Depends on how long your definition of “long term” actually is...

Thats it!! I am gonna quit my job after giving the boss a talking to.
You had better be right about the end of the earth.

The pressure is on those clubs that are over the salary cap. We don't need to rush. The fact that they are offering $500k with Kasiano shows how desperate they are.

I would wait to see which other clubs are over the salary cap. We can lowball offers to the right player and get the club to makeup any shortfall.

Maybe we could get Curtis Scott from Melbourne?

Imagine the outcry here if we were in that position ! Big high priced dud buy and willing to pay another club half a mill to get him out of their system. Possum would have a field day on Millward !

Again perspective on how other clubs are run.

If any of the other NRL clubs have any brains at all, they buy no Storm players whatsoever and they should pay an incentive to ESL clubs to also refuse to take any of them except one Cameron Smith.
As he is the last signing he is the 1st one out the door if they are over the cap.
One could actually say "now is not the right time for us to get the Storm to drop their duds".

There is speculation re Smith signing that he is not the last signed but extended, which apparently is a difference. So the actual last signing would be a "new" signing not an extension.I'm sure the NRL would rule this way because it's Cam & the storm.

FWIW, Peter Baddell reckons that Notso-Fatsiano is off to England.

Happy days Dragons fans...

Close, only about 6 or 7 billion years out.
When you look at it that way, yeah, sign him up for 3 years, who cares.

Apparently, the club is now talking to him again and have "guaranteed" him a spot in the 17.

Go figure...

It has been reported that big Sam is on $600k at the storm and they are willing to put in $500k so our cost would be $100k.
Would he sign for just one year, doubt it, We would be stupid to take him even for one year, just wait and see what happens with other teams.
I read somewhere where we only have 200$ in the bank so why would we waste half of it on that grub

The Sharks have to get rid $350K worth of players for 2019 as part of their punishment. Rather than wasting time and money on Kasiano why not try to work out a deal with the Sharks to get Josh Morris back to fill the right centre position?

They aren't going to release any player like that.
Some lower class player not Morris .

Maybe- but a lesser player isn't going to be on anything like $350,000-they'd have to let a number of players go and then that stuffs up the depth and balance in a team. The Sharks have Bronson Xerri- a centre who they're promoting as their next elite player - as a ready made replacement for Morris.

Sam Kasiano could still join St George Illawarra as an immediate replacement for Jack de Belin, according to Fox Sports NRL reporter James Hooper.

Hooper revealed the news on NRL 360 on Thursday night that the Dragons had reopened talks with the Melbourne prop in the past 24 hours.

The Dragons have reportedly guaranteed spot in their top 17 should he join the club.

Round 1
When the NRL announced de Belin, who has pleaded not guilty to aggravated sexual assault, would be stood down under the game’s new ‘no fault’ policy, they also confirmed the club could seek salary cap compensation for the loss of their star lock.

ARLC chairman Peter Beattie said the club were yet to officially apply for the cap relief.

“They’ve got an opportunity to apply. The decision said it was not automatic salary cap relief,” Beattie told NRL 360.

“They’ve got to apply to the salary cap auditor to get relief because we want to make sure in the future we have a standard where clubs are complying with the culture we’re setting.

“They need to apply for it and that was made clear at the news conference.

“I’ve seen St George (at the NRL season launch), they’re smart people and I’m sure they’ll put an application in.”

Dragons want to sign big Sam

De Belin is fighting the NRL’s ban in Federal Court, with a judge on Thursday confirming the forward was still free to play because the ‘no fault’ policy was yet to be enacted, however a lawyer representing the governing body said they were confident it would be in place before the Dragons’ Round 1 clash with North Queensland.

The Storm have reportedly been looking to offload a player to relieve salary cap pressure and Kasiano was one name thrown up in recent weeks.

The former New Zealand international, who was reportedly also in the sights of the Catalan Dragons, would add plenty of size, power and experience to Paul McGregor’s pack.

Kasiano alongside Graham would be alright. His Melbourne form was very very below his best but I feel like that has to do with losing too much weight. He simply lost his brute force after Bellamy cut him down.

I don't think it's a necessary signing but if it's almost free because of cap relief, I don't mind it

OT, but there's a story I heard about Sam that made me respect him. Apparently years ago, when Barba was a Dog's player, he was in a taxi with Barba, Barbas wife and another player. Barba and his missus were involved in a full on screaming match, with Barbas verbal abuse being allegedly shockingly violent and agressive towards here. After that day Sam and that other player refused to associate in a personal matter with Barba even though they played with him

I confess that I haven’t followed Kasiano’s most recent form. What I do have embedded in my mind is visions of a first grade player who has played at international level, proven at the highest level to be one of the most damaging, competitive (admittedly grubby) players who when attacking the line always drew multiple defenders and was very dangerous with ball in hand. Although I don’t know where he is at fitness and physique wise, potentially he could be ready to reignite his career. If the club are genuinely looking at him they must think he is not washed up.

Of course Kasiano is not a like for like replacement for JDB. Without a doubt the absence of JDB will weaken our defence. It’s Nigh impossible to find a equal replacement. I think all the forwards will have to carry some of this burden. Host in particular might be a dark horse to partially fill this void.

I say all this with the knowledge (right or wrong) that I have a proclivity to impact players and always feel a need to add more big dudes, so yeah I’d like to see big Sammy in our pack if the clubs convinced he’s injury free and physically ready.
