This signing is for De Belin's replacement where up to 600k is to be credited to our cap and De Belin's salary paid by the NRL. In this case we need to buy a lock or a prop to replace De Belin as either K Sims or Frizell is likely to play in the 13 jumper. So buy a backrow forward or a front row forward only.

As I understand it, De Belin's salary cap relief ISN'T paid by the NRL, it's paid by the club. We have already paid $200k to De Belin for this season, so the other $400k would be just cap space that we could use if we had the money. Greenberg already said clubs who have a player stood down under the 'no fault' policy, may not even apply for cap relief as they cannot afford it.

Could you please post the exact words Greenburg used. I think it odd that the NRL make clubs liable to pay for decisions made by the NRL. With regards to De Belin, SGI did not stand him down it was the NRL. So NRL should be responsible for all costs.

Greenberg also indicated that a club's finances could preclude an application for salary cap relief, with any player stood down to be paid by an NRL outfit as per usual while a legal resolution plays out.

"There's a number of things we'll have to consider," Greenberg said.

"We can't just simply say yes to salary cap relief because quite frankly some clubs can't afford it. So there will be some clubs that if this happens again, they probably won't apply for it.

"We need to consider a number of factors about how we would apply salary cap relief.

"The short answer though is we'll be looking favourably for those clubs for those clubs who are looking for it".

I also meant to say that De Belin's full $600k is paid by the club as usual, but the remaining $400k for 2019 is cap space that we can apply for if we have the money. Better way to put it.

My interpretation of the NRL statement is that ViceVersa is 100% correct. The NRL will consider any application for cap relief but only if the club are financially viable to fork out the extra cash. There was no indication the NRL will cover the players contract fee otherwise there wouldn’t be a need to review the clubs financial status as it wouldn’t change, only the player receiving the money would change.

we dont need a prop ...

we need in order.

1. A lock or right edge depending on where Friz plays
2. A back rower who can play centre (for bench depth)
3. Wings
4. Left centre

If the NRL stands a player down:
  1. The NRL should be responsible for all financial aspects of that decision mainly because the decision is made outside of the Club's authority.
  2. So the NRL should pay the player's salary.
  3. The NRL should remove the players contract from the Club's obligations; including salary cap obligations.

But they wont so move on. No point winging about it.

Crush, they might if this matter went before the courts. So here comes the rub, do the Board and CEO feel strong enough about this, do they really support fairness.

This whole report about linking Kasiano just smells so wrong!

Reportedly, the Storm are 600k over the cap, yet they are willing to offload Kasiano and retain 500k of his salary, effectively only reducing their cap situation by 100k.

The #'s just don't add up and offloading Kasiano seems more like a fire sale to get rid of a "trouble" in my opinion.

As I stated earlier, why in the hell would we assist the Storm in their woes!

If they wanted to offload Finucan or Kafusi then I would be interested, but Kasiano is a big no!

I can’t confirm the veracity of this unsubstantiated rumour (as it comes from Facebook), but there is a report suggesting that Cameron McIness is close to signing with Parramatta. This may (or may not) tie in with the alleged interest with Kasiano.

Make of it what you will.

I'd take big Sam for sure. If he can stay injury free he's still a beast with plenty to offer, we could do with a bit of punch off the bench to replace Ah Mau especially now K. Sims might be in the run on side.
I'd also consider taking Matty Prior back for a year, a better option than the recently injured Ava Seumanufagai.
