Sam Tomkins: coming to an NRL club near you

The thing is when the argument is too tough for JJ he cowers behind his taunts instead.

JJ I never got the reply to my stats posting of Tomkins a couple pages back?

WTF? Certain degree of irony in your post there, seems I've missed two memos, the "must rave above Tomkins one" and the "must reply to tangalife one" apologies

I couldn't care less what you think tbh...

I watch the warriors, and he makes a glaring error every week, the Melbourne game aside he's been relatively anonymous against quality, and defensively he's been petty poor imo...

I am ok with him, but in the context of the hype he's disappointing, and there's pages here from people arguing he's one of the best fullbacks in the comp... I disagree... opinions are what this forum is about, but you join the worshippers, all good...

but this pseudo-intellectual bullshit attributing any perceived improvement in the Warriors to him, is amusing tbh we've come up well short the last few times we've played decent opposition, the miraculous distribution skills of Tomkins didn't win us games against the Bunnies, Manly or even Brisbane...

Tomkins is so overrrated by some. He is improving but he is nowhere near the best fullbacks, needs more then "slight of hand" to be mentioned with Hayne and Inglis, even slater and Stewart.

Overrated by some. Underrated by others. Pessimistic, optimistic, half glass empty, half glass full, blah blah blah.

The whole argument has been done to death.

Well they must be worrying about him... Because that's the side that Mannering has been scoring a heap of tries on this season...

They run that shape that sweeps back left with Tomkins out the back... But instead of playing out the back Tomkins... Townsend plays short to Mannering.

It's no coincidence that Mannering has started to be effective again as a ball runner since Tomkins has arrived.

No room in this thread to get technical

You are probably right, but as his form improves its ok to have another argument;-).

Oh it will keep going.

This thread getting bumped is pretty much dependent on form.

bad game - one side bumps
great game - other side bumps

The only time it didn't get bumped was the weeks where he was solid mistake free without doing anything great.

No they mustn't.

Does Boyd need to be credited with Scott being put through massive yawning gaps at the start of the season? Or Mini for Cordner?
To the layman... No... You would just credit the ball player... Because they throw the final pass...

But the truth is they all play a significant part... the pivot, the lead runners, the 2nd man and the winger.

The ball player makes the key decision to go short or out the back...

But for a ball player to successfully be able hit the lead runner they have to make the defender slide... And you do that with the guy playing out the back.

And it works the other way as well... If the lead runner worries the line... The defenders will hold... And that's what opens up the 2nd man play.

That's why having a ball playing fullback is so important... Which the warriors haven't had previously.

And why when Hayne stays up in the line the Eels keep the opposition guessing . . . crikey I'm glad I bumped this thread

Hey JJ, what are your thoughts on how Tomskins is going this season?

Just copy and paste the above mate, and then insert in thread once a day, save yourself some potential RSI.

I reckon Tomkins has been very good this year, but in the subtle way of linking up with our right hand edge. He has the occasional flashes of individual brilliance, but its mainly his subtle touch which has proved so valuable - and was something the Warriors never had with Locke.

Defensively he has some real issues at time, and really needs to work on it - generally good under the high ball, but a rubbish last line of defence when there is a line break, and tends to have a few brain explosions when he needs to make quick decisions. Once he irons out those problems he will be right up there with some of the best players around. And he has been getting better all season in most ways.

LOLkins sucks so bad under pressure. Only good when the Warriors are steamrolling a team by 30+

Choked when it mattered most. He crumbles when the intensity is raised. Will be found out if they make the finals.
