Not sure is Chris Sandow is worth the money overall, but in the current market he is. He is the only half of somewhat proven quality on the market. They just don't come along that often, and most are quickly retained by their clubs.
The best halves in the game once established rarely move (bar Noddy), Lockyer, Thurston, Mullen, Pearce, Cronk, Campese all players you would want all never moved to date.
Some move as they are trying to establish themslves, Thurston, Soward.

So we could have tried to unearth the next good thing from the 20s, but I would much prefer signing a half who really has a lot to offer. He is not the finished product either, he is only 22. He has a real spark, enthusiasm and speed. When halves have the threat of speed, it makes it easier to execute other skills.

So happy to have signed arguably the most exciting young half in the game, happy to pay overs. The best thing is he seems to be getting better.

Next one big quality outside back and a edge backrower please. I think it will be amazing what a difference they make.

There is a big outside back in western sydney, was in our stands a couple of weeks ago, used to be coached by Kearney, not very good at kicking. I would be throwing everything to bring him back. That would be a great signing.

Congrats to Parra for not leaking anything, it's driving everyone nuts with all this speculation.

So if true & we paid 500k a season. For a xtra 200k we could have had thurston. Hmm. Good signing but I can't see him being the player we need. We will need a solid 6 to make a big difference.

They stopped front loading contracts after thee dogs did it with Ryan & patted in 2008.

Different scenario, you can't front load a current contracted player, the moment a player has there contract extended you are then allowed to front load the contract.

Leo Dynever was never an elite young talent at Newcastle - he was a mid 20s fill-in who had 2-3 solid seasons and was signed by a desperate Wests at the latter part of his career. Hard to compare the two.

At least we have no fear of Sandow turning into the next Matt Orford - a $300k p/a, 33 year old playing for a 1 from 7 football side .....

Wests were desperate and the Eels are not? Keep telling yourself that.....

Eels are desperate Pete - and sure, why not?

Since Sterling retired we've had probably 3 guys play halfback who were 'passable' and none of them rep quality.

John Simon - did well, but weight always a concern.

Jason Taylor - one season.

Tim Smith - 1.5 seasons quality, drunken/drug addled lunacy from then on.

To have had maybe 5 years worth of 'decent' halfback play since 1992.... OUCH.

Sandow is young, 4 years FG experience, very capable all around game. Still needs some development, but Souths wanted to keep him - we're not the only ones who thought he looked like a good future prospect!

AND I do rate Chris Sandow highly. I reckon he is a very good player (former SouthsLogan Magpie - the Raiders Qld Cup side)....

You are a knob, Thurston will only take that from North QLD, he would get more overseas. Thurston to Parra is a geniused pipedream.

You paid big money to take Inglis when you already had decent centres, and then re-signed Sutton over Sandow, AND are the kings of paying overs and paying 3rd party, and under the table payments to players (leveraging the star power of your owner).

You are now coming on here attacking us and Sandow for the deal....... tee hee.

Sandow has signed with us and you are left with no playmaker in 2012. Craig Gower on $500k a season at Souths, here.we.come. :D
Inglis is also a Five-Eighth and Fullback. And Sandow, Sutton and Merritt were all tabled offers at the same time. Sandow chose to hold out. It wasn't like Rabbitohs left it till last. Get your facts right on that one please.
We will probs go for Finchy. Gower no way

I guess you'd find something to complain about even if Parra signed Thurston as well.

Parra gets one of the better up and coming young halfbacks in the comp and all you can think about is 'we should've gone for Thurston' or 'we need a 6 instead'.

He is a fast-developing halfback and excellent for Parra, particularly in the long term(assuming he continues to play decently), why wouldn't he be the 'player we need'?
