SBW: the example for Islander players

No. Do you give a child what ever it wants just because it asks for it? Why not? Because it isn't good for the child. A good parent gives a child what is best for it.

Sonny Bill is a dumb footy player and is just like a kid. Canterbury, should have been looking out for sonny - not just giving him what he asked for.

5 years was not in his interests. They were in Canterbury's if he stayed.

Sonny has plenty of money, he could of afford legal advice when he signed it. Sonny was what 21yo when he signed the contract, at the age of 21 he should no what that then means, if he doesnt, then he doesnt need his 500k a year. Signing a 5 year deal was a risk for him, a risk for the club he took the risk, he should now pay the price.

If you're not a Union Troll, you obviously have a hatred of Canterbury as a club?

Either that, or you're a person of Islander Origin yourself with a massive racial chip on your shoulder perhaps?

Nope. Just a bloke with common sense. I understand why SBW doesn't want to show up to work on monday when he should be earning 1.5mill a season.

No. People want to punish Sonny Bill for the sake of it. Essentially because he is earning far more than joe blow. It is a case of simple jealously. Put any of you blokes in his position - and you would be very angry about what has transpired.

Imagine showing for work on monday knowing that your employer coerced you into working for 3 times less than your worth and is going to let you rot for the duration of your career. That was SBW predicament.

SBW hasn't stabbed anyone in the back personally.

Except for the entire Bulldogs squad. And the management. And the fans. Yep ... no-one.

Mason negotiated his departure. He didn't leave for money. He left because it wasn't working where he was. And he negotiated his departure. SBW just ran off squeeling like a stuck pig for some buck$ overseas. I wouldn't begrudge him if he left for more money overseas, except for the fact he's only a few months into a new contract and he skulked off in the dead of night.

Oh ... but all that must be Mason's fault right? :sarcasm:

sonny signed a contract for 5 years simple. If he wasnt happy with the money, dont sign a 5 year deal. There is plenty of young players out there who sign 1 year deals to keep increasing on a yearly basis.

sonny agreed to the contract, he signed it, end of story. Perhaps if sonny had a "proper" manager he could of had an escape cause. Did he? NO. Thats not the bulldogs problem.

Ben Te'o a young n upcoming star, he wanted an extension with the tigers for 1 year to squeeze money, they wouldnt do it from what i understand, he wasnt happy with his manager, he sacked him. The player gets what he wants, he doesnt like the terms on the contract, u dont sign, u shop around.

Sonny failed to do so, too bad to him, he signed a legal agreement to be with the dogs for 5 years. He broke it, he gets whats coming to him. Perfect example... Tallis leaving dragons.. they wouldnt release him, he sat the year out.

I think he's just a specialist devil's advocate... you know, like the legal aid solicitor everyone gets allocated? Even the most guiltiest of people still ahve someone arguing in their corner in the trial.

Coerced? You have any proof of that? You keep driving this line, yet you have no proof whatsoever. Nobody forced him to sign the contract. He agreed to it. He was obviously happy with it at the time, otherwise he wouldn't have signed it and gone elsewhere.

Does pretending to have a differing opinion to everyone else make you feel special?

Savethechildren,
So what ur saying is, if sonny played sh*t for a year and dogs wanted to terminate his contract but sonny didnt want too, it would be ok for the dogs to get rid of him?

The very idea that Sonny Bill has betrayed the code is delusional. He is entitled to play whatever game he wants.

He is a good example to other Islanders though. He has been taken advantage of at every turn.
It's not delusional as it's the very feeling he has left me with...and I dare say I'm not alone.

RL means a lot of things to a lot of people and the ideals it stands for, IMO, have been betrayed by this traitor. He could have left RL in any number of fashions, but not like this.

I agree he's entitled to play any game he wants, but there are steps one should take, and signing for five years, then talking about loyalty, then not telling anyone you're going, and allegedly keeping it under wraps for a month is probably not an honourable way of quitting the game that made his hugely marketable name and image.

You saying he's a good example is just silly and an attempt at controversy, but you're entitled to an opinion.

EDIT: Having just read the rest of the thread it is quite pointless arguing with you as you're spouting non sequiturs such as "he was taken advantage of by signing a five year deal" when that was a SBW demand.

I dunno why anyone bothers answering the crap savethechildren posts, he's a low-grade troll worthy of nothing more than the following retort;

Piss off.

Theirry, so SBW is part cracka?

Mostly cracka. Look at him, he's hardly black. Completely white (half Kiwi half Aussie) on his Mum's side and, well, his Dad's surname is "Williams" so he's hardly 100% Samoan.

I hope all Dogs fans get out to the game tomorrow as a show of support to the rest of the team. Its very important to do that at a time like this. Watch out Dragons, beware the wounded Bulldog.

Amen! I will be there

Sonnys a fool for not having a clause giving him the ability to re-negotiate his contract in a couple of years. Surely something you'd do thinking the salary cap might go up.

In saying that though if I was boss of the Doggies I would have said to SBW, Sonny play out this year and the next and we'll talk about re-structuring the contract.

Oh well goodbye SBW hello Ben Barba.

I actually never really thought of him as an islander/Maori and it surprised me that anyone could see him as a role model for islander kids.

Good to see him go, he's done nothing but piss and moan for months now. He'll be a distant memory by the end of the season.
