Scott poised for shock return to Sydney

I don't think there's anything in the rumours anyway. Midley has been talking about how he's gotten a lot of feedback from fans saying they want the club to be recruiting blokes that are good citizens as well as good players.

That certainly isn't Bird. Also I'm not sure I agree with everyone saying he's better than Scott. He might be a bit above him in attack but Scott's defence for us saves us constantly. He's going to be a nightmare to replace.

But he's also from Maitland and a local Junior so that will appeal to the locals only crowd.

Keeping Beau would be my preference over Bird for sure. Losing Scott would be hard to stomach but I believe if he does go we should make a play for Bird and Thaiday. Hopefully we would get one as a replacement. It seems unlikely Thaiday will take a pay cut to stay at Broncs. 29 with a young family and a marquee forward if there ever was one. we could always demand Thaiday for Scott if that is how Bennett wants to play it. He was in town this week.

If the choice is only between Bird and Thaiday Id go Bird for sure...even with the lingering drug related hearings which I think we'd be nuts to bring into the club given the history.

Thaiday hasn't played good footy in 4-5 years.

Btw I can tell you now we told Mason to move on because Stone knew he wouldn't be able to handle him and his bad influence on the other blokes. Bringing Bird in just seems counter productive after that.

Just my opinion of course but he's become lazy and his contribution is poor. Certainly not the type of player you want replacing Scott anyway. I noticed the decline a few years ago but it got much worse when he was given the captaincy. He's not a leader...hence being stripped of it. Scott is a leader.

Where is this Scott going to Brisbane coming from? I thought he wanted to go back to Sydney for family reasons?

Bennett hasn't got much right lately but calling out fat thaiday was on the money. Seriously ordinary.

Bird would be our best player with daylight second if he came here. There's a reason he's an auto selection for NSW and Aus.

It has been in the news over the last few days. courier mail ran an article on it I think and NRL 360 mentioned it twice. Probably cos Wayne defended him in the press. I think if Wayne wanted Beau he would be a Bronco already.

They also said on 360 that Bennett was in Newcastle earlier in the week. Presumebly talking to Scott and/GAGAI and who know who else. Didn't realize that he had taken young Joseph Boyce from the NYC. good young lock forward. Mostly in a Randall mold than any.

There's been a lot of reports that Bennett was spotted with Alex. Probably visiting him given it was a year since the injury.

I doubt there's anything in the Scott to Brisbane rumour. It seemed to come from Gordon Tallis taking the story of Scott's get out clause, Thaiday on notice and Bennett defending Scott and speculating Scott was going to Brisbane.

I really don't think Scott would be the type to ask for a release to go to Sydney for family reasons only to end up in Brisbane.

Yeah I cannot see any reason why a move to Brisbane would be in any way associated with reasons with compassionate grounds

In all seriousness if Smith keeps up his current form I wouldn't mind seeing the club try and get another year out of him. I know he was showing signs of decline last year (he had a lot going on though) but given the circumstances, providing he keeps playing like he is at the moment, I think we need to keep him for another year if Scott, Gidley, Fa-alogo and Gagai all leave. That's just too much experience to lose all at once. Even if it's just to play from the bench to provide some starch and leadership with the view of moving him more into a defensive coaching role by year's end.

Smith was the best player on the park on Saturday, I thought. For a smaller guy he pumps the legs and surges forward well, not to mention he's one of the best defenders in the comp and a leader.

I wouldn't be surprised if he has another year in him as well.

The Mole supports the notion that Bird will sign very soon. He has been pretty accurate of late. Beau sounds like a bloke who is torn.

We're gonna sign Bird?

How good was Smith? He isn't the quickest, youngest, strongest player out there but he was so good. Just did all the small things right and defense was wonderful too!
