Season 2023: A Write-Off?

I am ok to jump off the BA bandwagon but I don't want Barrett as anything other than a caretaker.

Yes, a hard decision needs to be made and the side needs a reboot. Better we start now than after this season and complain there's no players on the market.
I don't think the club will do it.

They will have to pay 2 years of his contract. Not sure what BA is on but i would say its probably around 800k a season mark which will force the club to pay him 1.6 mill unless there is a payout clause in his contract.

Us fans may be itching for change but i don't think the decision makers personally are.

No one from the board has given BA there full support yet which means he isn't getting sacked anytime soon.

Once Jim Sarantinos who btw has gone missing again or the board give BA there full support then we can excited.

In my personal opinion I don't think that just because the leaks have stopped, there aren't things happening... (never mind).

Hopefully there are KPIs which would avert a full payout if not met. After hitting the finals week 2 threshhold for some time (exception being last year), you'd imagine (hope?) any extension which Arthur's contract allowed him to auotmatically take up based on last year's performance might (after so many years) also have been loaded with some insurance in the club's, e.g. if we subsequently fail to make the 8 he can be sacked without payout etc?

Its certainly better that the leaks have stopped.

You only have to look at the Dragons and see what a mess it is when the board cant keep anything in-house.

I just don't think what i have seen from this board they have a ruthlessness about them to sack BA if things continue to deteriorate.

The thing is our team is good enough to probably pick up 10-11 wins this year which will mean we miss the finals by a game or 2 in that no-mans land position of 10th or 11th.

Which will look like the season wasn't a complete disaster of a 5-6 win season but just a middling one.

Maybe there’s a clause stating he’ll only be entitled to a (maximum) full years wage, if sacked more, despite the number of years remaining on his contract.

or if he’s a parra man thru and thru he’ll do the right thing and walk.

it’s def time for change.

Honestly it'll take some kind of miracle for Parra to make the top 8 the way theyve been playing. Parra need to change their attitude as some of the games lately theyve lacked the mental toughness and at times dont seem to communicate with one another.

I’m off BA but it’s pointless punting him unless there is a genuine replacement ie. a coach with a proven track record.

Its amazing we won the prelim in Townsville tbh. The mental toughness and grit we showed that night under adversity was amazing.

But lets be realistic we haven't seen much of it elsewhere in past 18 months.

Someone like Des Hasler
Sorry but No! Man is brilliant but he's suited only to Manly. He's an out and out Manly guy. He'll frustrate our fanbase even more than BA.

We need either a neutral supercoach or a Parra man again. I don't see too many former Parra coaches so It'll have to be a supercoach like Bellamy or Robinson. Flanagan could be an outsider as he's coached a team to a Premiership, played for Parra and he comes from a team neutral to us.

You do realise that Hasler got the Bulldogs to 2 grand finals...and that the Bulldogs aren't Manly

Just going back to the World Cup coaching and player praise/performances... would a combo of Michael Cheika (Lebanon - Moses praise) and Matt Parish (Samoa - played above and beyond expectation) tick what we need?

He did , but didnt he backend contracts of a lot of players which stuffed up their recruitment and got them into huge shit

Was sacked by dogs.... then also Manly

Dont think anyone was or is chasing him either, not sure if that means nothing or clubs are just cautious

Canterbury he had Raelene Castle who had no idea of salary cap management Des played her off a break i reckon.

Manly well they spent 60% of the cap on 3 blokes - justified or not DCE contract was done when Toovey was coaching and Turbo's well they had no choice clubs were coming in with huge offers a few years back.

First time Manly had Des well back-ending was probably justified they won 2 comps and made 4 GFs with that squad. They squeezed as much as you can from that side between 2007-2014.

I know, so he's no better than Brian Smith outside of Manly at best. Look how he left the Bulldogs. Personally, I think his miracles at Manly were down to him knowing the culture deeply. I don't see him at the same level as Robinson, bellamy or Bennett.

He did get a team with Kris Keating and Josh Reynolds in the halves to a GF and minor premiership.

The mess he supposedly left at the Bulldogs well it was easier for Management to keep blaming Des for there shortcomings and not take any accountability. Like not managing the salary cap properly by not having a CEO or HOF on top of it.
