Season 2023: A Write-Off?

He did get a team with Kris Keating and Josh Reynolds in the halves to a GF and minor premiership.

The mess he supposedly left at the Bulldogs well it was easier for Management to keep blaming Des for there shortcomings and not take any accountability. Like not managing the salary cap properly by not having a CEO or HOF on top of it.
Come on man, getting someone to the Grand Final is not good enough at this club. We lost a Grand Final with Jeff Robson and Daniel Mortimer to a team cheating the cap.

Anyway, I don't want to argue this point. I don't think he's a great fit. If the club goes with him, sure I'd back him for a few years at least.

I don't think the club will do it.

They will have to pay 2 years of his contract. Not sure what BA is on but i would say its probably around 800k a season mark which will force the club to pay him 1.6 mill unless there is a payout clause in his contract.

Us fans may be itching for change but i don't think the decision makers personally are.

No one from the board has given BA there full support yet which means he isn't getting sacked anytime soon.

Once Jim Sarantinos who btw has gone missing again or the board give BA there full support then we can excited.
You're right. Because of the cock up of extending him for 2 years, he'll nearly have to lose the dressing room to be on outer. If we keep losing, that's gonna happen too.

Have been at least 4 games that were easily winnable and 2 that they could have won
If they lucked 3 wins there then they would be top 4

However, they didn't so only way to make the finals would be to hit a rich vein of form and win 10/11 of the remaining games.

If they can do that then at least they would be title contenders - if not then don't bother

even winning the next 2 game (Souths, Cowboys) leading into the bye could sneak them into the 8 given the closeness of the competition

In my personal opinion I don't think that just because the leaks have stopped, there aren't things happening... (never mind).
Having read these forums for the best part of two decades, I'm fairly certain that you have very strong contacts within the club and would know what is going on, but my own limited contacts (admittedly more through the pathways system) are very pessimistic around recruitment, as they suggest that some at the club are a little concerned that we can't identify and address squad weaknesses adequately....and even when identification is adequate, we are not able to secure our primary targets, which is why we tend to get the journeymen.

Why don’t you just say what most know in the junior leagues. I’ve heard the same despite ‘findings’ showing there was nothing to see.

There was a reason why there was an investigation in the first place. It didn’t come from thin air.

People have to understand that the references to "nepotism" in the junior league had nothing to do with Jake Arthur or even the traditional, historical understanding of nepotism.

It had more to do with the consistent willful blindness to players from certain clubs and the saloon passage handed to players from other clubs.

It has been happening for at least 30 years at Parra in my experience (with different junior clubs as beneficiaries).

But my original post was more talking about the recruitment processes and our frustrating inability to secure our primary targets.

But I dare say Emjaycee would know a bit more about this through his contacts, as the people I know are more involved in pathways and only really hear tidbits around recruitment.

That's why I come to this site in an attempt to glean more information.

Parents of identified young talent have been stongly 'encouraged' to enrol their kids at whatever happens to be the flavour of the month junior club at the time, which has weakened the overall quality of competition in the juniors with one or two strong sides stacking the best players. This is the nepotism referenced in the junior league review.

Made it pretty easy for other NRL clubs to come poaching our junior talent and leaving us with the dregs.

I think this may have been halted as recently as last season only and from what I believe, the key protaganist may have been moved on from their role in our Junior League.

Its amazing we won the prelim in Townsville tbh. The mental toughness and grit we showed that night under adversity was amazing.

But lets be realistic we haven't seen much of it elsewhere in past 18 months.

Its one of the best wins in the clubs history, to think they were behind and normally would just slip away, they came back and everyone stepped up, the defence in the last moments were outstanding, everyone was committed to the tackles

However that was their grand final, as the following week they looked busted and didnt show much aggression in attack and defence.

We've hardly seen any of that this year. Even playing against teams they're expected to get on top off. Still annoys me how we made Manly look like a top 4 side and they've looked terrible ever since.

Who's knows what performance they'll put in against Souths.

It's pretty much always been like that. As far back as early 90's where if you didn't play for Wenty, Cabra, Fairfield Pats or Parra Marist, good luck getting anywhere

Lane being out for 6-8 has pretty much done our dash imo… Dylan is usually half the player without Lane there
That's brutal.

Footy gods just weren't on our side this year from the start when Laney broke his Jaw in the trial game.

He missed what 5 games already and another bunch now so that's basically half the season.

Des Hasler and Shane Flanagan have proven track records.

There is no chance I’d go after another rookie unless it was someone with profile like Billy Slater who could attract rep players.
Hasler and Flanagan have both been SACKED...May as well go after Griffin...he's been to plenty of Clubs, and has plenty of experience.."Be careful what you pray for"...The Grand Final is not until October...not May...Don't chuck your bum in the corner for 2023..It ain't over until it's over..Do you think Roosters fans have conceded their season is over? Any team can beat any other team in this very close comp...(that is, IN MY OPINION)

With Lane out move f**king Davey to the left.

Matto to Other side and Hopgood in the middle rotation with Carty

Bring in Moretti or Toni on the bench.

Jack Gibson was SACKED before he signed on as our coach. Wayne Bennett was SACKED before winning a comp at the Dragons.

Means sweet f**k all.

Exactly...Ken Kearney was sacked after a stack of premierships at StGeorge too......wasn't able to win one at Parra either. Bennett hasn't won one since his Dragon days... Sacking for the sake of sacking...!!!!.solves nothing......Taint over til is over....

He’s had 10 years mate. The clock is ticking. He misses the 8, questions must be asked and it’s not because he just lost his four leaf clover as @Poupou Escobar would have you believe.
