Season 2023: A Write-Off?

True - it already started this week with the presser about losing the penalty count as an excuse for losing a game that a successful club would've won... And with every loss from now we'll hear about our injuries, instead of honesty about how our top 30 squad didn't recover from last season's significant defections (Mahoney, Papali'i, Nuikore, Kafusi, Opacic). All deflection in what is shaping as a massive backwards step season.

Its certainly better that the leaks have stopped.

You only have to look at the Dragons and see what a mess it is when the board cant keep anything in-house.

I just don't think what i have seen from this board they have a ruthlessness about them to sack BA if things continue to deteriorate.

The thing is our team is good enough to probably pick up 10-11 wins this year which will mean we miss the finals by a game or 2 in that no-mans land position of 10th or 11th.

Which will look like the season wasn't a complete disaster of a 5-6 win season but just a middling one.
No coach has ever missed the finals and then gone on to make the finals again at the same club.

He did , but didnt he backend contracts of a lot of players which stuffed up their recruitment and got them into huge shit
Would they have even made those grand finals without it? Would Manly have won their '08 and '11 premierships without contract manipulation? Is it necessary for most/all clubs to even be a chance? Is that what we did in recent years and now we are paying for it? All good questions to which we will never know the answer.

I think the development of players is suffering due to the lack of class in NSW cup watching the highlights from last weekend the first try the raiders scored was right down the middle with Ranking and Moretti jogging back to the defensive line after they made a tackle and the out side defenders not coming across to fill the gap.

This screams to me that...

A: Players just do their job and that's enough. putting in a bit more effort to cover your teammate isn't a priority.
B: We are not getting 3 into tackle to slow the play the ball down and this is due to poorly coached defense.

Most week at nrl we lose the ruck speed because ba wants us to be nice guys.

Other teams gets tangled in the play the ball or the panfers drag them back

All valid questions.

No more grand finals for Manly nor Dogs

The NRL will tighten the rules relating to back-ended contracts in a bid to prevent the salary cap problems which have been created at some clubs in recent years.

CEO Todd Greenberg said the NRL would always support clubs offering higher value contracts to players as their careers developed.

But he said club CEOs today agreed that restrictions were needed to stop back-ended contracts.

Mr Greenberg said back-ended contracts might help a club in the early years of a player's contract, but they could severely impact that same club's salary cap in the latter years.

"These deals can also give clubs an unfair salary cap advantage in the early years of a contract," he said.

Did anything concrete ever get put in place though? Or was it just another Greenberg thought bubble?

I still can’t cop that we are worse than the shit teams hovering around the 8.

We haven’t been great but I think we will climb the ladder and ultimately make the 8.

I reckon we make top 6 (home finals game)

Out the door week 2

Normal transmission resumes...
