He is a f**king great defender and a very good option for 14 though.

Luke is the issue, I don't think he can defend well enough and with his history I'll be amazed if he's not injured a lot

Size is the problem. Him having to make 40+ tackles, 20 games a year on much bigger guys. It takes a couple of pre-seasons to get to that level usually

I'll get sooked at again here but yeah Api is special to be the defender he is at his size. It's definitely not the norm

Kenny can handle that side of it but lacks the attack. Maybe Cogger could make a handy 9, Someone from outside the box is best option

Again a lot of whinging. We get it; you don’t think Kenny is good enough. Others see a young player improving markedly season on season, started throughout our dominant finals campaign and will be going through a pre-season for the first time as our number 1 hooker. Plus we have the ability to slot Luke in their and that gives us a reasonable degree of flexibility in game plan. Maybe I am being Pollyanna-ish…

But presuming you are right and Kenny is not good enough, what does that actually mean? How much worse are we than last year? Are we specials for the spoon? Or we will only win the Minor Premiership by 4 points?

We won the gf by just bashing Eels out of the game in the first 20 minutes and Api only came on in like the last 2 minutes of that or something similar. The majority of that time Kenny was playing. He is a limited player and we're keeping Luke because the club knows that but in the end if you run harder and tackle harder than the opposition you'll win 9/10 of footy games and Kenny belts opposition runners more/harder than any other hooker bar maybe Smith.

We can't go firing on all cylinders all year but if win enough throughout the year to be in the top 4 then show up with the same intensity as we did this that's a realistic path to a premiership.

Discussion stops when the only replies are trust Ivan. Happy to actually discuss it but very few people do

Luke has 105min of FG and is 26, What of that to you screams NRL hooker?

I think Kenny passes too slow, Doesn't run it as a result is very predictable. As a result the defence will have more time to pressure the recievers.

We have a much bigger sample size to go by. A few ex players have mentioned this in commentary. Aaron Woods was one in the lead up to the grand Final
And when certain people thinks that their opinions are the only ones that matters

The thread contains all this though for those who only see what they want
Thats the whole point we need to use our left winger and centre more. Cut out balls, kicks, whatever works. Kikau can't be replaced by who we have in the squad but
Turuva-May-Tago is far stronger than
May-Tago-Garner/Hoskings

That’s all fine in theory. When did May last play in the centre position and Tago is untried in the back row. Two big unknowns right there. Anyway as I have said previously probably best to let Ivan and Co to work it out.

We both said it and we both agree next year is different.
I think we'll finish 4th at worst with a regular amount of injuries and suspensions. Lose Nathan for 10 games again and we'll be bottom of the 8

Api was the best hooker in the sport for the last 2 years. Harry Grant might surpass him this year though.
Hooker is vital to a teams success

We will have great defence, Strong kicking game, Make very few mistakes

That wins 75% of the games. So getting to the 8 is no issue, Getting through teams that do those same things well looks an issue.

Hopefully someone makes a huge jump, Or Tago getting moved or something

Plenty of posts here with discussion on where to next, Maybe instead of taking pot shots, read the thread get involved. That is the point of an opinion based forum

Really isn't rocket science

A topic is getting debated, get involved to ensure both sides are debated or shut up, You can't whinge that it is only one side when the other side of the debate isn't getting involved

That is fine, yet don't sook when those who share the opposite views are doing just that
I have got a full on day today, and me dealing with my stuff is far more important than dealing with you. As far as your claim that I'm sooking far from it. In fact I'm laughing at your apparent arrogance.

You took pot shots when people posted their opinions. Your's is not the only opinion/ Have you ever considered that perhaps (shock horror) that their opinion is just as valid as yours?

Oh don't go there, as it's hard to discuss this with a narcissist, and Iamback, you appear to be one.

No, I took pot shots at replies like

'Trust Ivan'

That doesn't belong here when we have had the player turnover we have had. We are talking for 2023 not what has happened across the past 3 years. Happy to discuss these opinions when there is more behind then trust the system

Since 2020 this team is playing elsewhere, I wouldn't run last if it was a top 17

Laurie
Staines
Momo
Jennings
Naden
Burton
SOS
Tamou
Api
Hetherington
Kikau
Capewell
Hopgood

TPJ
Tetevano
Mansour
Burns

So what has happened in the past doesn't apply here when the side has lost 3 current Origin players for starters

I don’t understand your thought process you led the anti Gus Gould cheer squad in regard to some of his recruitment and retention decisions. Given our success this past three seasons I would have thought Ivan Cleary and Matt Cameron have done a very fine job given the difficulties of the salary cap. I would have thought opinions around the job they have done would be 90% positive.
