I disagree with Brandy there. I think we can create something special from within.
We don't need marquee players, never have never will. Boyd was a reject when we signed him, and look how that turned out.
Focus on retention.
For people who argue, would you like Linnett/fai fai loa/Whare/ sims brothers etc. on our books?
with a bit of faith, they still would be.

Price will pay the Price no pun intended and Doust is the eason for it he is a tight arse wanker who clearly doesn't want to part with money sure he'll keep the local juniors thinking that will appease the fans yet lacks the understanding fresh blood is needed.

Its good to see Alexander pointing out the obvious thanks you fox sports stooge we don't need a Panther wanker telling us how things are we already know this he is just sprouting the same crap he probably read in a forum like this.

As ong as Doust and his cronies run the Dragons things won't change he needs to go its as simple as that then Price might have a chance with some oe who has some type of vision and not another 30 years of mediocrity.

Boyd wasnt exactly a reject though, he was a current Origin and International Player, infact he was called our 'marquee player' by the other dragons players in an interview.

The Dragons have been active looking for a halfback, its just fallen through on several occasions, but apart from that, its been very quite for a very long time, and I didnt overly mind, but this past few years, the player talent leaving has (by a factor of 10) outweighed the talent coming in/up, and I dont understand how we are using up the salary cap.

Boyd was told he was unwanted by Brisbane. You do the maths.

I dont know where the money is either Rev....but what I do know I would love to have Josh Morris back for starters.....I just realised what seperates him and Brett from most other centre/wingers they run STRAIGHT and at pace....oh well I can dream for a while.....

Doust won't get the sack. His cronies are the same as him, tight arses. He got the job from his old man. They all want the same thing, to stay there until hell freezes over.

Can't see him leaving the Dogs under Hasler. That dream is over I'm afraid.

Doust is appointed by the Club board.

In a complicated show that vaguely parades itself as a democracy, the board is elected by the respective Club members. No, not Red V members. You have be a Football Club member or Leagues Club member to actually vote on anything.

But you can go the Red V forum on August 1 at St George Leagues Club and vent your concerns.

Red V members need to read their emails to get all the details regarding submitting questions. Don't sit back, find out for yourself and let them know. Debating about it here is great - we need more of it. But bitching really only gives fodder to the tabloids.

So what can I do Willow? I live at the top of WA and I can't attend the Red V Forum. I am a long time leagues club member and I want to have a crack at Doust. I think we need a critical mass of supporters showing no confidence in that prick. A footy club is only as strong as its support base and we should be able to exert some pressure. Last time I looked there was over a million views on this website alone and damn near as many on the Jubilee. How do we pro-actively and positively push our message through.

Just a comment and going over old ground, but having Gaz come back has put us basically in the position we are in now.Having to let Josh ,Jeremy Smith and Costigan go has left us a classy centre and tough forwards on the short side.Imagine our side with these players in the team now,top 8 for sure.

We got the premiership. Gaz was worth the cost.

yep agree..
plus the gasnier contract was HEAVILY back-ended so in fact at the moment since he didnt complete his contract we should be financially ok given the contact money put aside for gasnier was never needed...
so even if we had to let a few players leave on the assumption gasnier would see out his contract, the fact is we are now in a position to use the money to aggressively recruit new players with the cash that was never used..

dont blame a single contract as the sole reason we let all those players go.. over the last 2 seasons there were a few contract upgrades as well to players like Merrin, Hunt, Prior, B.Morris etc..
the question you should be asking from Dousty and Co is: was it the right decision keeping younger guys like Hunt and Prior and letting the hard heads like Smith and Costigan leave?

Josh was playing VB Cup at times last year. He's clearly responded to the changes rung by Hasler, as have a number of the Dogs players.

Costigan doesn't seem to be the player he was for us in 09-10. And he's not in the picture for the QLD squad anymore. His best is probably behind him.

Smith is the one we needed to keep. And there is that rumour about him returning.

Saffy was the other big loss from the 2010 squad. Fittest bloke in the club apparently.

I was excited about Gaz coming back, this is not to disrespect him and my argument to anyone not wanting him back was the same as yours,a premiership.Just putting up a hypothetical.

The cash may have been used. We don't know the inside workings of how the club spends it's cap money. One thing is for sure we don't sign up marquee type players. Last year Moltzen was our only "big name" 1st grade player targeted. The others were fringe players, Latimore, Mathews, Ah Mau etc.

It's not only our cap we can spend. There are outside sponsors offering third party deals to players, like Gaz's earlier deals. Let's get some of them on board.

I'm hoping that if we don't win this year that the Dogs will and put so much pressure on their cap that they are force to release players
JMoz is where I'm coming from and the synergy that is created when he and his twin are on the field is something special IMO.
I think that we won't be short of back rowers if De Belin and Marketo come along and those that remember Timmins move to lock would advocate Coops serving a year or two in that position too.
So a dream team for me of
  1. Cummins /Beale
  2. Nighty
  3. JMoz
  4. Beale /C Stanley
  5. BMoz
  6. K. Stanley
  7. Soward
  8. Hunt
  9. Rein
  10. Merrin
  11. De Belin
  12. Creagh
  13. Marketo / Coops
  14. Marketo / Coops
  15. Merrin
  16. Stockdale
  17. King
Ain't all that bad. Sub C Stanley for JMoz if that dream doesn't eventuate and it's still pretty solid. Vidot is also a back rower IMO and could be a damned good one at that. Cummins may be the real deal or not. Interesting to see in the future

The Dragons didn't have to buy a squad like Canterbury and go to the market previous years. Why buy a back when you have Cooper, Gaz, Moz and Nighty. They had Hornby at F/B but moved him at half and got Boyd. Great business. In the forwards they had Young, Creagh, Scott, Hunt, Prior and filled the rest of the spots with Smith, Costigan, Fein etc. As for Soward they got a half on the cheap and turned him into a gun. Why would they have needed to go to the market with a great bunch of juniors.

As for next season they have allready snapped up Beale. People seem to forget that. He is an absolute gun player and a great buy. They have Cummins coming through and Kyle on Stand by to fill in the boots for Hornby. If Soward goes they will then buy a half. Saints have a great strategy in terms of building a squad and with the quality of players they have PRODUCED not bought like the DOGS and co they have also had to pay to RETAIN these guys. Retaining a player and extending their contract is more or less buying a player. Insytead of getting someone from another team you are paying a guy to stay longer at the club.

Saints have a great Roster and should be in the top 8 with that squad, but with a clueless twit in charge they are 11th. Next season is over too if he is still around.
From a team which was brimming in confidence that they literally just played the motions each week and won without even having to play a full 80 mins to a team that has not even got the confidence to score a try is a huge turnaround in 12 months.

yep and if the cash has already been spent given the current strength of the squad then even more reasons to question Doust, Price and co..... gross mismanagement at its finest..

Whether or not the Gaz money was used, the damage was done - we lost Smith, Costigan because of it. The time before that, when he was trying to figure who to sign for - we lost Josh Morris. He may be a legend of the club, he may have won a comp, his name will forever be linked with greatness within the club - but both times he left he caused damage.

Godd luck trying to get JMoz back in the V. Firstly, they have 10 players coming off contract this year - even with the players they have signed, they will be under the cap. Secondly, they would be mad to let him go.
