Season Over?

I went to the game against the Panthers and by fulltime I walked out with my head down.
I know we only lost by a point and Sowie was out but the way Price shuffled the team around I could see the writing on the wall back then.
Price doesn't seem to have the confidence in our younger players and as an up and coming coach I think you have to take some chances in team selections, especially the way our team is going at the moment.
He's trying to coach to conservatively which in my eyes shows he's trying to protect his job.He needs to give the young blokes a chance for the rest of whats left of this season.
The night I walked out of Penrith Stadium I knew our season was over and nothing our team has done since then has changed my mind.

Isn't Penrith Park a terrible place to go when we lose? Been there before and it was not fun at all.

1) Doust bought Bennett to the club. Premiership
2) Greenburg has been desperately buying all or anything he could get his hands on for some years now. Donut so far. Hasler this year might, note might, turn it around.
Has not happened yet. He is not a proven messiah yet, and Greenburg hasn't got deity status just yet either. On current results Doust > Greenburg.
3) For the gazillionth time, there is absolutely no relationship between Gaz staying, going, vascillating or the timing of any or all such events and JMoz. FACT. JMoz was entirely Bennett's decision, a sound one for sound reasons at the time, but shown to be wrong in hindsight.
I spoke to the original Slippery Morris, the great Steve, after Josh signed. He was shattered and totally blamed Gaz. He said that if Gaz had informed the Club earlier that he was going to French rugby, Josh would have stayed. Unfortunately, Josh is well settled at the Bulldogs now so it'll be difficult to prise him back.

Josh missed out on a premiership when his brother got one. He now has a much, much better chance than Brett to get one now.

I hope he doesn't. I hate the Bulldogs and their supporters.

Yar 100% agree, that game and the Roosters games were the realisation moments for me... our coaching attitude in terms of selections and positions, and our style of play isnt going to threaten serious teams, regardless of results between now and september.

Our form might not be that bad seeing what the Raiders did to the Storm last night.
We've kick-started their season yet again.

Puts the last game into perspective.

We still can't score points (1993 ?)

5th best defense, lowest scoring.

If we had 5th best scoring, we'd be 3rd or 4th.

Did he say why? He wasn't an understudy for Gaz's position at the time, so it can't be that, unless he thought he could make the change to the RHS.
Would he have expected a higher offer? Wouldn't be guaranteed, particularly based on what I was told from someone else inside the club (ie involved at the club at the time that it all went down). My understanding is that the whole motivation for leaving was a financial one. That was Bennett's decision, no guarantee a better offer would have resulted.
Slippery would obviously have an emotional involvement in the whole situation and I'm certainly not about to second guess someone so close to the event. It would be interesting though to understand what his reasoning was to lay the blame at Gaz's feet.

Don't know any more than what he said to me and the others who were with me. He had a pretty strong opinion on the matter, that's for sure.

Well I've certainly got egg on my face. Was on these Forums all week tipping the Storm and hoping we'd lose to be put out of our misery. I haven't watched the game yet but will pop over to the NRL site soon and watch the replay. I did sneak into a pub with 15 minutes to go and was taken back by the 26-12 (or something like that) score line. Grabbed two schooies and watched the Saints win, gave everyone a hug on the way out and told them our season was still alive, I think they thought I was mentally ill lol. Anyways, four from five to go. It's gonna be hard but come on you Sainters!

Roosters
Tigers
Cowboys
Warriors
Parramatta

Must beat Tigers and Warriors to knock them off our level, Roosters and Parramatta should be won.

That gives us 30 points and, still, probably a negative for/against.

Looking at the remaining rounds and match-ups of teams above and with us for spots 6,7 &8 these matches could help us
  • Manly v Cowboys and Bunnies v Titans
  • Cowboys v Warriors and Souths v Manly and Storm v Titans.
  • Us v Cowboys
  • Brisbane v Manly
  • our season could end hanging on the Cowboys v manly last round....

Yep it's possible. Hanging in there. Fortunately a number of bottom 8 teams aren't playing well. We do have a few easier games. Cross your fingers. Go the Dragons.

With the injuries in the Tigers' den they could go into freefall. Would love Cronulla and Manly to slide down a slippery pole into oblivion.

Huge effort given the injuries and rejigging of the back line.
Not a fan of Fien in the halves but was pleased he pulled one out of the hat for his 250th game - he sure did play well.
It was really gutsy effort across the park, though the Storm were well down on their best.
Was more than happy to enjoy the performance but Bmoz' individual brilliance was the difference between winning and losing, and our set play attack still needs a lot of work. Price did well to plug the hole Scott left after the second half.
Cooper Cronk should get cited and suspended for that chicken wing.
Still don't think Young should have played.
But hey, he's a big boy and I'm guessing a very happy one today.
Hope Bronx Goodwin gets to play next week if Scott is sidelined.
Well done Saints!

A team or athlete can only win against opponents they are playing.

Melbourne were not in the finals 2010.

The way I see it the Dragons have a point to prove the same as the Knights after they won 1997 in a split competition, then completed their unfinished work 2001 with a full competition.

This point may not be talked about, but somewhere deep down in the gut or the subconscious brain, it's there waiting to be fulfilled... not just a patch work.

 The Melbourne not being there in 2010 argument always makes me laugh. They cheated and anything they did between 2005-2010 is now completely null & void. We were the best side in the comp that year and deserved premiers, end of story

I'm with you, Hutty. Melbourne cheated. As someone else on here said, they can take away the premierships but they can't take away the fact that they cheated for 5 years. Stuff them.

We won a competition that didn't have any cheats in it...

That seems llike a full comp to me.
