We have two great rep props but the rest are honest toilets at best.

Pretty upset with this situation, Im sure it's not as simple as saying it was either Payne or Segs.

Leaves us with basically no long term hooker.

Kind of upset he is injured as I would like for the club to drop him to QLD cup.:(

Good signing Penrith

Really even if you were pushing for a Premiership?? Idiotic thing to say really. If the Cowboys gave him a good offer I am sure he would have stayed.

Damn. I really like Segs - he's going to be a star.

I think this was more about the lure of the big city. Not a whole lot we could do about that. It definitely wasn't about choosing Payne over him. We re-signed Payne on a one-year deal last year, only so we would have some depth and someone to mentor Segs. Seems pretty pointless keeping him aorund for next year then.

Which means we need to sign not 1, but two hookers.

To be fair, we've done some awesome recruitment ourselves in recent years - including signing very promising juniors from other clubs.

Tariq Sims, Tamou, Linnett, Fai Fai Loa, Leary.

You can't keep them all.

I'm not sold on Thompson as a dummy half, but that looks to be the plan in the short term. Our only other options are Elisala (yet to debut, had't played any hooker at all until last season) and Leary (again, yet to debut, is apparently being converted from a ballplaying lock to a hooker).

I hope we throw everything and the kitchen sink at Ballin.

He signed with Penrith.. Not sure the lure of big city had anything to do with it.
There's a number of Dragons players that live in Sydney even though they train several times per week in Wollongong. So "Penrith" is part of the "big city".

Point is he's within driving distance of a number of things he's not within driving distance of in Townsville. That's what was meant by "big city".

Good signing but I'm sure cowboys will be right. They probably have another bloke they can rely on that may be coming through. Seg will be a bit like Kingston at penrith IMO good solid player

Keen to see how Payne goes tonight, whether he's got anything left to still lead them from dummy half.

I think the answer is no.

FFS. Is there some brick wall separating Penrith from the rest of Sydney?

Penrith to Bondi, Manly to Kogarah, that big ole thing in between is all Sydney. Lots of things to offer than a regional town doesn't.

I think the answer is no.

You seem to be making out that he hasn't played all year? He has actually been in better form than Segs so far this season, but dipped in the last 2 or so games.

I think this is a big loss for the Cowboys however, and they are in trouble at the 9 position for the next few years.

I rated Payne 5 years ago. Not now. He hasn't impressed me recently.

Has your hooker in Toyota cup got anything?

He is obviously passed his use by date ala Buderus but the club doesn't have much option this season (Segs was gone for 2012 anyway).

The big one tonight will be how Ray Thompson handles going from halve to hooker for 40mins or so.

Its either going to be revolutionary or a unmitigated disaster.
