I could be wrong but I don't thinking Cartwright was assistant coach at Penrith in 2003.
He was, started in 2001. Left for the roosters after 2003.

Our inability to score tries with a mountain of possession was the reason we lost that game. I think others on here can decide who the batshit crazy one is.
A couple of points from the game:
-RCG was a beast and he must be a chance of a NSW jersey if he keeps playing like that. This was at Suncorp against a fired up Broncos side and he was just awesome.
-How does Edwards manage 175m on one leg. This kid is some player.
-You can't write May off as a 5/8th after a handful of games in his debut year in first grade. It takes time to learn the craft of 5/8th. Poor bloke is being written off after barely getting his jumper dirty. All I know is he has ticker, evasiveness at the line and defends well. Lets see what he can do in 2018.
-Ditto Cleary. He is also learning his trade and will be a great player with more experience. He has heart, calmness and is a tough physical specimen. Add a touch of cunning and he will be a rep player.
-In the end to lose by a single try at Suncorp is a good effort when your team is the youngest in the NRL. We dominated the Broncos at times and they deserve credit for their defence. But we lacked guile. Especially without Moylan we didn't have enough players who can read the game and scheme. The Broncos were rushing off their line, the backline needed adjusting, a grubber kick behind would have been perfect and not executed by Mansour. If JT was playing for us we would have given the Broncos a bit of a hiding.
-This team has bags of character. They fight and tackle until the end. They are fit, feisty and make you work for a win. If they get the right direction from the halves, they will be a force. We are building the foundations of a good side and just need experience. All the sides left in the semi's are teams with at least one experienced rep level half. Milford and Hunt. Morgan. Cronk and Munster. Pearce. We tried to buy Carney. We tried to buy JT. No deal. This season has shown why those players get huge bucks. They make the difference between a good team and a great team. We are a good team.
- All this talk about set plays overlooks the fact that it is still up to the players to execute and deliver. I am not saying we have an extensive set play book, but we assume that Hook has no playbook and blame him. Besides which, if it was all about set plays then the highest played person in the game would be an attacking coach. Somehow its the halfback that seems to get the big pay packet though. I wonder why?
- I think Hook should have left Katoa out there. I think the commentators mentioned they thought he was going really well when he come on and who am I to argue? Hook pulled the wrong lever with that one.
- We really missed Blakes pace. He is our only genuine speedster and when he is fully fit, he could have handled the Bronco's attack a lot better and would have caused a few issue with his speed. Mind you, you need the halves to give you the ball and we haven't got that bit worked out yet.
And a round of applause for the NYC team whom yet again are one game from the finals. They must have a lot of new players because half of the previous champion team is playing NSW Cup or first grade. This is how it should have been for the last 20 years. A team always in the eight and producing yet another first grader. Thanks Gus.
I rarely bet on football especially on Penrith games but I can't see the Panthers being beaten tonight - so I am loading up on the juicy odds available.
I hope it is not too much for the Panthers to carry.
Thank you Pomoz for a great post. I agree with all your points. At least you are not one of those negative anti-Griffin whom seem to hog this Forum.A couple of points from the game:

It is my fault - as soon as my money was on, I felt the jinx. Poorer and sadder and resolving, for the good of the team, never to bet on Penrith again
Pretty sure Cartwright was assistant coach of the Roosters in 03.I am pretty sure he was. Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source but also says the same thing.

Sad for him but that could well make the club reconsider letting Moylan go.

People are anti-Griffin for a reason. He's not that good. He either needs a good attacking coach with him to help or to move on.
Yes but will that help though. I don't know how much John Cartwright can make a difference.
Gould has reportedly been helping with training runs & tactics the last few months. If you believe the reports. Brandy has come on board to help our halves on last tackle options. 2 good analytical minds there on a part time basis.
Without Moylan the last few weeks our attack has been a little clumsy. With him its a work in progress with rare brilliance.
Cleary keeps getting caught on the 5th and our last tackle options against good quality teams are junk.
I have seen some improvement on building pressure but not enough consistently. Certainly not against the good teams. I know we are a young team but we have a premiership window that is open. It will close soon if we don't get our attacking structure right. If Moylan goes you can put us back years for a premiership or a top 4 finish. Surely the club know that.
Look we did well to reach the 2nd week of the finals without our best player. I thought our year was done 2 weeks ago. But we were never a top 4 team this year despite the pre season hype. Off field issues played there part early on as well as a few selection blunders.
A coach that has guided us to back to back finals season in his first 2 seasons deserve some praise.
I am not calling from him to be sacked either but unless things change. (E.G his relationship with Moylan, game tactics) we are wasting a good team that can become a great one.
Just throwing it out there not being negative.

Great post.
Griffin isn't terrible he's just doesn't seem to have that X factor to coach a team to get wins against the top sides.
I hope cooler heads prevail and he's not considered for a new contact until he second half of next year.
We simply have to see significant improvement in our attack in the first half of next year. No more excuses.
Would also say, that almost as important at the 5/8 situation, we need to move beyond Wallace at hooker in the first half of next year.
Not sure katoa is ready for 80mins yet, but it should be slowly fazed in over the first half of 2018.
How did this become you two Vs me? You're pretty much agreeing with me except we aren't sure on the solution.
