What do you mean Cronulla offer nothing,
Ok so we haven't won a premiership, The area has a significant league junior base..The amount of Cronulla players that have put on the green and gold jersey...Cronulla most certainly contributed nothing....Your not a Rugby League supporter.

What part of "geographically swallowed by St George Illawarra" did you miss?

I made a point that Cronulla have contributed to Rugby League, and all you can come up with is Geography...Go and tell the Gymea Bay Gorillas whether they have contributed to the local area ie the Sutherland Shire.

We are talking big picture here.

In what way do they enhance or assist the development/growth of rugby league? And, most relevantly, what do they do that couldn't be done without them? That's why geography is relevant. St George Illawarra would pick up right where the Sharks left off (and then some).

How can the NRL really afford to keep the Sharks in Cronulla? They represent an area with bugger-all people in it, hemmed in on all sides by rivals, an ageing population, and no room to expand their fan base significantly.

Dont be fooled by the NRL's "show of support", they are smart and are sharpening the knife. There are more important fish to fry in Sydney and beyond - the NRL can afford to lose Cronulla from the comp. The AFL cant put a team in Cronulla, and the Sharks crowds show that most dont care anyway. You'd lose maybe 10k diehards from the code but thats it.

Cronulla was a money pit when the economy was going well. Who in their right mind would invest in a basket case located in a swamp in the current climate?

The only certain thing is, it will be a fire sale when it happens.

WTF?

Housing prices in Engadine Loftus Heathcote Jannali etc are exactly what first home buyers are after.

The place is packed with young families.
I live there .

I guess the older generation is who they are showing Kung Fu panda for free in the local park this Sat night.

Cough... Southern Sharks. Long term permanent commitment to South Australia of say 4 - 5 games. Take one to Central Coast V Newcastle then the rest still at Cronulla.

The team can be based out of Cronulla - but set up offices/reps etc in Adelaide. The SA Rep team should then become the SA Sharks. All local teams/development officers etc. would also take the Sharks logo as part of SARL. The NRL then should support it with a partial relocation grant (or even a half million extra in funding per year - rather than outright money.) You would then play V Melbourne/NQ/Warriors etc. in Adelaide.

The SA government and Adelaide venues (both the Oval and Hindmarsh) are keen. You would increase the casual supporter base BY A MILLION PLUS. Even a casual supporter base of such is worth much larger money to sponsors.

Then everyone effectively wins
1. The Shire wins because it keeps it team
2. SA wins because it gains a team
3. The NRL wins because it gains new territory (thus increased financial potential) without losing a team.

The Sharks brand, colours etc are one of the most marketable in the NRL and are a team that by stretching its wings could become one of the most strongly supported nationally in the comp.

I have a couple of mates that work at the club albeit at a minor level but like in any job, they hear sh1t.

They think that Zappia is quite a decent CEO who is hampered by a very amateur board. Apparently he doesn't even have a contract with them either. They reckon he's going to Parra if the club's gone.
