TODD Carney looks headed to Cronulla-Sutherland.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal South Sydney had no interest in signing the troubled former Dally M Medal winner while the Gold Coast Titans have withdrawn their interest.

That leaves Carney with just one option - the Sharks.

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan will meet with Carney's manager, David Riolo, either today or tomorrow, when it is understood the Sharks will table a two or possibly three-year deal.

The Sharks will, however, insist Carney agree to a number of strict discipline clauses before signing the former Roosters and Canberra star.

NRL chief executive David Gallop will also interview Carney before registering him for what could be his final chance in the NRL.

Gallop has been frustrated at Carney's ongoing promises regarding his behaviour. Photos in The Sunday Telegraph of a heavily tattooed Carney holidaying in Thailand, seemingly intoxicated, may not endear him to Sharks fans.

Asked how his club would handle Carney if he signed, Sharks chairman Damian Irvine said: "We would handle Todd exactly the same as the rest of our roster. We have a good, genuine roster.

"They know what is below the line and above the line in terms of behaviour. We have standards and expectations."

The rumour mill was flying on Friday night that Carney had signed a one-year contract with the Rabbitohs. But it is understood Carney was never in the plans of incoming coach Michael Maguire.

Having learned his trade under strict disciplinarian Craig Bellamy, Maguire never wanted a controversial player like Carney in his Redfern roster.

Souths also have little or no money under their salary cap. The Titans had expressed some interest in Carney but an offer was never lodged

Pen to paper. Then I'll get excited. If this does happen then 2012 may be a pretty decent year for us. Fingers crossed.

I really want this guy in the BB&W...
He will either be our savior or the final nail in the coffin.

I dont care what he does off field...as long as he puts bums on seats & wins games.

Sharks have a heap of halves now if Carney does come, I hope that by bringing in Todd that it doesn't mean someone like Kelly or Graham will eventually leave in the season after next.

This shark fan hopes he was pissed rotten (maggot / maggoted) with his mates.... sowing wild oates ... and doing more laying then a floor tiler. As long as no local laws were broken then I don't give a sh!t.

If and when he signs with us I hope he continues to have a couple, sow some more wild oates and continue to lay as munch as he wants to... (as long as no local laws are broken)

God bless him and all that he sails in.

Just sign the prick now !!!!

Gal all over the place

I don't rate Carney as much as an organising half. I'd be tempted to put Graham at 7 and Carney at 6, but that leaves Kelly out in the cold, which seems like a waste, he's a talent.

carney(if he signs) wont play half. He will be the 5/8 or the fullback.
Robson will be the half.
Degois & Morris the hokers.
Chad will play NSW cup.
Kelly will get some game time off the bench. Would be great if dropped the attitude & had a decent crack at playing fullback(his non prefferred position). degois Robson carney Kelly spine would be pretty handy.

Next year would look a whole lot better if we can get him signed. Carney would have to play 6 with one of Robson/Graham/Townsend in the 7.

I would try Kelly in the centres as well. Don't really see a place for him on the bench with Degois pushing Morris to the bench utility spot.

Lollerskates!

What of Gardner Reef?

If I was coach......

1. Gardz
2. Hotdogs
3. Takeiteasy
4. Best
5. Mills
6. Carney
7. Kelly
13. Graham
12. Worlds greatest human
11. Smith
10. Gibbs
9. Degwah
8. Ross

14. Morris
15. Fifita
16. Toops
17. Green/ Bukuya/ Pom

Notes.
- When we get Carney, he would be the 2nd best player at the club and then some daylight to the next best half. Its hellz stupid to play him out of position to accommodate someone who isnt as good.
- You would have Ike in front of Mills, but with his court case and all that shit you cant have him there at the moment.
- Graham plays like a lock anyway.
- Taga needs a full off season to trim down, but is a solution at centre.
- Pom could be an asset off the Bench.
- Chad needs time to develop in NSW cup. Seeing that we "lost" Porter and Tim Smith, a Robson/ Chad partnership should see us to continue to be strong in this grade and give us serious depth to cover the inevitible injuries. he will get a go in firsts next year for sure.
- I am confident Todd will sign for us.

If I was coach:

1. Gardner
2. Williams
3. Kelly/Mills/Leutele
4. Best
5. Stapleton/Wright
6. Carney
7. Robson/Townsend/Graham
8. Gibbs
9. Degois
10. Ross
11. Smith
12. Bakuya/Gallen
13. Gallen/Graham

14. Tagatese
15. Fifita
16. Tupou
17. Morris/Green

A lot of forward depth actually, might be hard to fit Graham into the lock spot, if he does go there then our hooker might need to be an 80 minute man. Still have big issues with our centres/wingers. Mills is a centre only, too slow on the wing. Pomeroy is crap. Hopefully there is a chance of signing another player in those positions.

Newms, I love tags, but, his hands make pom look like Michael Jordan.

Reef; Pom was credited with 20 handling errors this year. He was second only behind Gardz who had a shocking year and 21 errors. In 2010 he topped the club and in 2009 HE TOPPED THE NRL for handling errors.

Now; Taga aint error free, but I cant remember him making errors like that or with that level of consistency, if at all (cant find any figures on it). What I do know is that he is big, fast, and the bloke can find a gap. Hell, he seemed to be our only player this year who made a couple of line breaks.

With that in mind, he beats Pom every day of the week.

I will chuck my hypothetical in for a laugh.

1 Gardner
2 Mills
3 Frizell (best line runner at the club)/ Bukuya (defensive purposes)
4 Best
5 Hotdog* (providing he re-signs, which looks likely)
6 Kelly
7 Carney
8 Ross
9 Degois
10 Gibbs
11 Smith
12 Gallen
13 Graham

14 Toops
15 Taga
16 Fifita
17 Morris

Just a few things as well, I would interchange Fifita for Gibbs, and Taga for Ross, but when Ross goes off, Gallen goes to prop, and Taga plays wide.

My centres, if we dont make a signing, then I want Frizell in there. He is the best line runner in the club, big, powerful, quick, and a good defender.

Or, Bukuya, even though he is made of glass.

There is no spot in Cronulla for Ben Pomeroy.

And I am a massive fan of his, but its time to move on.
