in my mind the appointment of the assistant coach should be someone that has demonstrated they have the skillset needed in order to one day potentially take over as coach in the event the coach moves on...
Young and McGregor are in no way in hell first grade coach material..

....hmmmm, respectfully Mr Red I think that line of progression is flawed and where it goes wrong. Coach and assistant Coach? Like a pair of shoes. You lose one, you buy a new pair.

Like in many Manager / assistant Managers in work life, the role of assistant is in itself a specialist one. It is a different set of skills and character traits. Leadership for example, is a big issue.
