I don't think it's a problem with a club with the demographics of the Roosters buying 17-18 year old's with potential from other clubs and bringing them through their junior ranks. In areas like Newcastle, Penrith and Brisbane there are thousands of juniors but in the end only 17 first grade positions available with their top team, so it doesn't bother me that they use their development and scouting officers for that.
The problem is it doesn't seem a lot of these juniors you buy ever make it, instead the majority of your team is made up of players who were already first graders at their previous clubs. For example next year you are losing Fittler, Hegarty, Hodges etc and you've replaced them with 3 already established first graders in Roberts, Monaghan and Firman.
Fittler was always close to retirement, where were your oh so brilliant talent scouts 3 years ago looking for a suitable replacement that you could buy young and bring through the grades to be ready for when the inevitable happened?
