Sam - most of the people at the NRL were charged with very similar offences to those at the A-League Grand Final. The only discerning difference is the damage that was caused by the WSW supporters and the glee some of their fans took in pointing this out to supporters of Sydney FC


It's interesting to note that a friend of mine who is a Dogs fan was telling me about the large increase in chatter on the Bulldogs fan sites regarding the A-League and WSW performances. He is of the opinion that there is a large crossing between the codes with that particular group of supporters. Something Loudy wondered earlier in this thread too.

I wonder if a large segment of the WSW supporters are Parra or Penrith supporters too?

POLICE will examine security footage to try to identify the fans who destroyed 200 seats at Allianz Stadium during Sunday's A-League soccer grand final.

Witnesses described seeing as many as four Western Sydney Wanderers fans at a time jumping up and down on the seats.

Their combined force snapped the seats off their metal footings.

About 200 were destroyed.

Police said they were reviewing the ground's security footage and were hopeful charges would be laid.

A spokesman for the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust said the damage bill was still being calculated.

A-League chief executive Damien de Bohun said the A-League would assist police in any inquiries.

The trail of destruction left by some "Red and Black Bloc" fans marred what was otherwise considered by many the best A-League grand final to date.

The seats were damaged in an area known as "The Cove", where Sydney FC fans sit at their home games.

"Have fun next season Sydney Scum," one Wanderers fan posted on social media after the Wanderers' 2-0 defeat by the Central Coast Mariners.

Despite the damage, police described violence at the match as minimal.

However, two smoke bombs and 14 flares were thrown and 21 fans thrown out.

Police said reasons for ejecting fans included offensive conduct or swearing (six), drunkenness (four), having flares (three), pitch invasion (two) and smoking (one). An FFA-banned fan was stopped from entering the stadium."Twenty-one ejections across about 43,000 people is 21 too many," Mr de Bohun said.

"But it is a real minority."
