Soccer at Shark Park

Why are you so sure? The NRL team has hardly had a sell out in over 15 years. This sports club idea is a bit rich. So Barcelona and Real Madrid have basketball teams. But their soccer teams can draw 80000plus. Their basketball clubs draw on the 80000. Our NRL team averages about 12k. A soccer team running out in Sharks colours could draw 5k. Shire people need to get behind the MRL team first and foremost. There have been many instances where the team have been let down by a poor attendance and no atmosphere at NRL level.

I for one can do without Wanderers dickheads or Sydney FC cappacinno set at Shark park.

We sing for Wanderers! What a load of shit.

Why am I so sure?
Because a SHITLOAD of kids and adults in the shire play soccer.

WELL HOW STUPID ARE THEY ??? THEY ARE ONLY 50 YEARS TOO LATE !!!

Lyall, youse have missed the boat baby !!!

The Shire had a chance 54 years ago to sign up a gun sookarh player and just let it ride.

They deserve all that has happened to them over the 5 plus decades.

Yes and guess what position this little legend played, you just won't believe it.

He was a little left winger. (psssst that is the Gymea Tech College in the background - the auto / mechanical buildings)

Absolutely.
It's a business.
It's aim is to make money.
An A-League team running out of Shark park wearing Sharks colours would make ALOT of money.
Didn't realise A-League clubs were such a cash cow. Why have two folded in the short history of the league? From memory only one club produced a profit last year

So you think an A-League team running out of a ground that we already own and using facilities that we already own wouldn't make money???

Places the club in a far better position to argue for Government funding to upgrade Remondis Stadium. Additionally adds value to the total asset value for future sell off. Better support for catering which we have brought back in house.

A shitload, myself included, played when Sydney Olympic flopped.

Sydney sports fans are fickle. Shire fans even more fickle. If priced correctly and they are successful they may get decent crowds.

Wanderers largely appeal to families of East European descent. They have an upbringing in soccer fanaticism. Shire families have a good record going to Miranda Fair and not live Sports events. Third team likely to get opposition from Sydney FC. Will have to wait and see. Tim Cahill ! By the time a club is up and running at Remondis he could be touching 40.

People in Australia want to see names. Hence decent crowds for visits of Liverpool and Man U.
Public here not worked out the games here are like practice matches. Don't be sure Ronaldo will play at Melbourne.

Watching 5th rate Brazillians and 3rd rate Irish players will NOT pack out Shark
Park. So they may make money, which is good for the club. I will go on record as stating they will not pack out Shark Park.

The shire has the most players of any association in Australia. Tap into that and surrounding areas like the gong and you have a great starting point for crowd figures. Other sydney teams will also travel in large numbers for the derby games to the point they would probably sell out. Its a great opportunity for the club.

Doesn't really matter weather the soccer club sells out Shark park or not.... The increased patronage to the facillities and the club are a bonus. All the same with Gormans' track record I wouldn't bet on it being a failure regardless. Might be also able to hit up the Soccer Federation for some $$$ to contribute to the upgraded facillities.

a shit load of kids and adults play soccer in sydney. Hasn't made the wanderers average more than 14k in their history. Sydney FC in 2010/11 averaged 7.5k for the whole season as the only club in a city of 4 mil (with prob over 100k people play soccer in the city).

Lots of people play netball, doesn't mean they go and watch it.

You guys need to stop reading the tele, wanderers have never averaged more than 14k despite constant media reports saying every game is a sell out and they could fill a 60k stadium and they regularly get less than 100k watching on tv, which is around what u20s nrl gets.

Yeh sure, he should def go out and try and get another soccer team in the sydney market, that would solve all our problems.

Comparing to wanderers is irrelevant anyway, in their 2 year existance they have made 2 grand finals, won the asian champions league. Now that they are bottom of the table they averaged what 10k last week? Just wait till they end up bottom of the table for a few seasons, be easy to crank out the decible meter then.

Oh and lol at the messiah who said they asian champions league would bring in heaps of international people... didn't mariners get 2k to their games last year? even you guys get more than that to trials.

Us older bloggers were told in 1972 when the Australian team made the World Cup finals fo the first time, that it was all over for the other codes, that sokker would take over

Northern Spirit would dominate Sydney after they drew 14k to a game, parramatta Power won the league and were gone in 2 years. The A league is run at a loss and covered by Frank Lowy, who does have a lot of cash, let's wait a couple more seasons before we surrender to the sokker myth.

I agree Cleary.

It's sounds a great idea but I doubt it would be a success in reality.

We have to get our rugby league house in order first, which it's nowhere near where it needs to be, despite promising signs.

Classic piece of misdirection by Gorman. Want to take the focus off Asada and Flanagan the give the media something else to talk about.

Lyall is feeding the chooks like a boss.

The points he makes about venue usage are no brainers. The club needs content to spread the cost of the stadium. More events, more people, more revenue.
