If you don't like soccer you're insular - sounds like something an AFL fan would say...

To RP - you claimed Australia would go beserk. I sure wouldn't. Lots of people in here wouldn't. Hence the "meh". It was relevant to the topic. Have a cry.

Talked about this with my mates a bit actually.

I'd rather win the World Cup for sure. Not a doubt. It would be such a bigger achievement. Helped by the fact that I follow soccer as well.

But I guess it'd be a bit different if I had never seen my team win a premiership...

Everyone's different... I don't see why people are berated for having different priorities in their sporting dreams.

Australia would definitely go beserk. Look what happened when we made the second round in 2006, imagine if we actually went further in the competition. It would be ridiculous.

Of course there would be a few saying they didn't give a stuff, but they'd be missing out, soccer is the world game, go the Socceroos!

The World Cup thanks. We should have a different poll though, will Australia win a World Cup before Cronulla wins a premiership?

The idiots saying Australia wouldn't go mental

The idiots saying 'it's just sockah'

Some of the replies in this thread have been absolute gold...if any of you can't appreciate what an unbelievable acheivement winning the World Cup would be then you're either geniused or just a moron. Regardless, it's not even close. I love Souths with all my heart, I've never seen us win a finals match let alone a grand final and the decision is still f**king easy.

Fortunes change for RL teams from year to year. Realistically, a team has a 1 in 16 shot EVERY YEAR. For the world cup, first we have to qualify, then get through 32 teams (with a limited squad because unlike footy we can't buy better players) and we only have one shot every four years.

I guess the people who voted Grand final are the same numbskull's that don't want the AFL and NRL giving up the use of the stadiums if we have a successful World Cup bid. Jesus.

This is just the sort of sycophantic, culturally-cringing attitude that will forever condemn sokah to the backwater of Australian sport.

 We complain about the AFL being insular, which they are, but then as soon as we talk about a sport that is infinitely bigger than ours and holds the biggest sporting event in the world people find any way possible to diss it.

I'm more than entitled to cringe at idiots like you who say:

Is this a trick question? Who in the hell would forsake their team winning a premiership for a soccer trophy???

"a soccer trophy" :lol::lol:

And backwater? It's the most played sport in the country and this year's World Cup final will probably be the most watched sporting event in the history of Australia - even if we're not playing.

Stick to your VB and Holdens and leave the discussion to the people with a brain, Bruce.

Exactly. FFS, the A-League doesn't even run in the same time of year as the NRL and people still see football as a threat.

I watch AFL, NRL and the A-League and support a team in each. I don't hate the S14 either.

People that think it's impossible to like more than one football code are amusing.

ITT, Soccer fans start acting like AFL fans.

if so, soccers based on Aussie rules not the other way around,

You wonder why fumbleball fans like yourself are ridiculed nationwide for being insular and completely geniused...

^^

How does it make somebody insular if they don't give a f**k about soccer exactly within this context?

I don't think the question in the first post is clear enough really, "important" is a bit vague.

More important to me personally? Premiership by so so so so so so far. I don't give a f**k about the Socceroos in comparison to the NRL. Some of the crap being spouted here is something you'd read in the quotes from Bigpoofy.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of soccer as a game... but NRL will always be number 1.

It's not an argument of what sport you prefer, it's an argument of how massive a thing it would be if we won the World Cup. It's so ridiculously unlikely that I would much prefer it then the Broncos winning a premiership, even though I like rugby league way more.

I am not denying that at all. Personally though, I would much prefer if my team won the premiership because I don't really care about the World Cup that much. I will watch most games involving Australia. I know how big it is in the world and also in Australia. I certainly know how many people DO care about it.

I'm just not one of them, tbh.

I thought it was an argument of which we would personally prefer.

 at the soccer fans in here. Bumble, nobody (well, barely anybody) is dissing it. Quite simply, I would much rather the team I have passionately supported year in year out win, than the national team in a sport I have absolutely no interest in, no matter how big that sport is.

My team > bandwagon team.
