Why move them to Adelaide? Alliteration is lame, and Perth would be a better prospect. Western Sharks doesn't sound so bad.
sharks are not going anywhere.
how much money did the gold coast recieve to set up a team??
the stadium they built was built for them not by them, how could it have been built by them they could not have raised that much funding in a year in the comp...
its idiotic to compare a 1 city team with a sydney club...

The Gold Coast recieves the same NRL grant other teams do, nothing more. All other money was raised through private funding.
The QLD government had to build Skilled Park for the team to be accepted into the NRL, the NRL was adement that the Gold Coast wouldn't be included unless they had a dedicated rectangular field to play out of. It would have been political suicide for the government not to build it.
what are 3 words that sum up the nrl.content with mediocrity.
i believe that at some stage maybe within 5-8 years, the sharks, dragons & steelers will all be one team.
i thought about a year after the saints / steelers merger, that at some atge the sharks would be incorporated.
i hope it doesn't happen - but i feel that's where it's headed.
Which is the whole problem. There are a bunch of Sydney clubs, not just the Sharks, who are content with mediocrity. Look at what the Titans have done in 2 years and then look at some of the Sydney clubs who've been around for 40 years or more.
They've rejuvenated RL in QLD, averaging 2nd highest in the NRL (close to the Brisbane Lions even though we have a much smaller stadium), heaps of members, awesome marketing, they own their area like no other team in the NRL.What have they done, and this is what the 4th reincarnation of the gold coast side ?
Melbourne is the hardest sports market in Australia to crack, it's incredibly insular. Getting support for teams in Perth and Adelaide will be a much simpler task, abeit not easy. Then we have the Storm, win a premiership, lead the comp and what are their crowds like.
We don't need to overtake the AFL in those states, we just need a decent presence there.Lets face it Victoria, South Australia and WA are all AFL markets that will never be cracked successfully.
