I believe Petes doing a fine job and has a good rapport with player managers which you really need in that position, I believe Anthony Field has done a good job in identifying some talent in the 20's .... The Manu boys they picked up in the off season are very talented wingers but the best player is young Travis Turnbull in the ball side, you'll see forty20 talk about him all year... I'm hopeful that there's plenty to look forward to

The Manu boys look to be solid pick ups who will round out our backline along with Dane Auckafolau. We also have a couple of big boppers in Tomkins and Salu in the 20s that we have put some work into who might feature at some point this year as well.

Turnbull though...you are right on the money about him. In a very, very good SG Ball squad he is our real gem. The other prospect from that talented squad that I am pretty high on is Tui Afualo.

So Nolan choosing to go back to Queensland wasn't as big a deal as some felt it might be?

Well it depends....

Do you rate Manu Mau, Bevan French, Semi Redrardra, Kenny Edwards.... Etc???

If you don't than nup... Not a big deal at all

Were you told that Travis Turnbull is the closest thing to a Thurston clone that you can mould.. ?

A few people have told me this kid has it all

Stags, I rate those players for what they've been able to achieve in their own development since signing. Nolan wasn't a coach, was he?

Sure Nolan must have been good at his job (before he chose to go back to his home state), but seems to be (still) put on a bit of a pedestal here? As you seem to be saying re P Sharp, A Field, and DA - there will always be others come along to fill a gap and do a good job (at our club, and at others).

Fact, if it wasn't for Nolan those blokes wouldn't be at the club and French would be running around in a storm jersey....so credit where it's due... I'm excited at the future of the football department but make no bones about it Peter Nolan is a big loss to this club.

Yeah, I think the early scouting reports had him billed as having the same skill set as JT at the same age on arguably a better frame. I think we have the processes in place to correctly develop him as well.

I saw the kid play a couple of times and whilst he didn't set the world alight some of his touches were brilliant, you can tell the kid is a footballer

I was really impressed with moeroa throughout the tournament. I thought he looked fit and seemed to cart the ball up with speed. It might have just been the peeception you get from having more room on the field but I thought he looked good.

The play that impressed me from Bevan was in the Roosters game where he came from the far side of the field to cut off the Roosters winger who was in for all money. He had to stop, passed back inside and the ball eventually went to ground. He saved the game - we were actually very lucky to win that game.

Awesome effort from the boys. Even though it is only a nines tournament, you can only be impressed by their competitiveness , enthusiasm, teamwork and will to win. Clearly they are a happy lot, and are enjoying their footy. They never gave up in any game.

Now, it's time to get back to serious business.

That sort of effort in cover defence is typical of French. Last year in the 20s we were getting pounded by the Titans late in the season and French had to make several cover tackles from fullback, which he is generally quite good at despite his size.

Towards the end of the game when the result was well and truly settled the Titans made yet another break and on this occasion French was brushed off somewhere between halfway and our 40m line. The Titans were dead certs to score as our left edge centre and winger (Miski and someone else) didn't have a great deal of speed at the best of times and were gassed pretty hard at this stage.

Out of no where the Titans are bundled into touch 1m out from our line by a blue and gold blur. French had gotten back up near halfway and had over taken our winger and centre to make the try saving effort. It meant shit all in a game that was well and truly over but it typified the drive of French and was a phenomenal display of athleticism.
