St George Illawarra show keen interest in Canberra Raiders playmaker Sam Williams

"Sam Williams ... straight away he reminded me a lot of Cameron Smith the way he always stays composed and never gets flustered," Orford said.

"We'd do opposed sessions and he just seemed to have so much time on his hands. That's a very rare trait for someone so young."
Although he debuted at the expense of injury-plagued Orford in 2011, Williams didn't live-up to the top billing until he guided Canberra to last year's thrilling finals run.
After impressing with his control and direct running on the biggest stage, the 21-year-old is now among a dozen off-contract playmakers who are sure to attract interest.
The Raiders have already signalled their desire to keep him, while St George Illawarra made advanced enquires about enticing the Cooma product last last year.

The return of Terry Campese will ensure Canberra boast plenty of depth in the halves in 2013, with Josh McCrone and Anthony Milford having also re-signed.
That leaves Williams - who would prefer to remain a one-club player - with a decision to make.

Isn't this all a history of activity prior to the Dragons signing Drinkwater?

Sounds like another player using the saints to boost his $$$$ ... Would be happy to have him though, very good talent!

Top little player and off contract at the end of 2013. Would come cheaper than a couple of the other big name halves off contract as well and he's still a kid. Get the cheque book out Doust.

I would think we made advancements regarding an early release for this season only we missed out. I think he will stay in Canberra.

He's the best young halfback to come out of NSW in a decade.

If we got Sammy, we'd be contenders straight away.

21 years old and was a class above n his first finals series.

He'll never leave Canberra though. If we were going to get him at all, it would have been in the middle of last year.

Wasn't there some sort of issue between Williams and Vidot at the Raiders? Might be why Sam isn't too interested in coming......

He sounds like a Raider through and through. And I do admire that loyalty. Such a shit place but their juniors do seem to be very loyal and good on them.
