Stadium Arcadium

I'm loving the album, got the leaked version off the internet nearly a month ago and haven't been able to stop listening to it since. It's just a really enjoyable listen and whether people like it or not, all the Peppers successful albums have involved Frusciante.

My personal fav would be Readymade, the highlight of the album is when Kiedis says "clean it up john" and Fruciante rips into IMO the best of many great solos on Arcadium.

Apparently, Keidis was originally pissed off at Patton for 'stealing his style' in regards to the 'Epic' film clip - even though RHCP wern't even that popular at this point (89'). Fast forward ten years, and Patton's other band Mr Bungle tried to get their new album titled 'Califonication' ironically at the same title the Chili Peppers annouce their new album will be called 'Californication' (Bungle settle with 'California') - Keidis gets pissed off, claims that the Chili Peppers won't play a series of European and Australian (The 2000 BDO) festivals if Bungle are ont he same bill as them, which they were originally before the Chili Peppers were named on the bill - Festival promoters get scared that Keidis will chuck a hissy fit if Bungle are on and kick Bungle off the tours. Bungle play a special Halloween show in the US that year dressed as the Chili Peppers complete with bad songs and frequent mock-heroin injections

I've seen that clip on YouTube.

Patton > Kiedis.

Anyone listened to Peeping Tom? Quality.

Only heard little bits on JJJ as of yet (I'm too busy with the new You Am I and Hard-On's albums at the moment) but from what i hear it's quality stuff. Someone said it's Patton's most 'FNM-esque' work to date...apart from FNM, of course.

I'll be buying it but I refuse to pay $31.99 on I Tunes, so I might actually buy a CD for once.

To those who say its a weak album! well let me get it first before you all say how bad it is!

I have four of the RHCP albums - Blood Sugar Sex Magik, One Hot Minute, Californication and By the Way. I think all four are really good despite the mellower and slightly more pop tone of the latter albums. Californication is still my favourite RCHP because its the first one I bought when I started to warm to them in 1999.

I'm not some hard core funk rock fan, while I enjoy the style of music, its the quality of music, the song structure (or lack of it at times!), the lyrics and meaning of the words, the wonderful guitar bridges and all round image.

I'm not a fan of a particular style of music just a fan of quality music whatever the genre.

I swear people who keep abusing this album havent listened to the whole thing. I know, its 2 CD's, so it takes a while to really listen to it all. But so many people I know have heard Dani California and maybe one or 2 other songs and just started flat out abusing it saying - 'oh its just as bad as by the way'.

Listen to Disc 2, its got some classic Chili sounds.

By the way (bad pun intended), the film clip to Dani California is pretty good.
Best Cobain impersonation ever.

By The Way is an awful awful album...this isn't much better (but it is better).

Funny, I've thought it was pretty good these past 3 or 4 years or so :?

I don't know if you're a RHCP fan or not, but I never think anything they make is awful. Yes possibly its the worse of the 4 RHCP I've bought, but I still play tracks such as 'Throw Away Your Television' and 'Tear' reguarly on the I Pod.

Its not awful at all IMO, its only 'awful' if you have an inflexible taste in music and only like the earlier RCHP stuff.

Still, everyone's entitled to their opinion and their own tastes. I just wish people would say WHY its awful. I'm afraid I'm a little too 'analytical' to accept people saying things are 'awful' or 'great' without some reasoning.

I'm thinking people are saying its bad simply because the songs are mellower and more commercial post Californication. But a well crafted song is a well crafted song, regardless of music taste or genre.

The songwriting was really really weak on 'By The Way' - they sounded like they lost their edge and purpose. Live the material was shocking when played next to anything pre-OHM stuff. Also I guess I've probably outgrown their mostly predictable material. I wasn't much of a fan of Californication previous to it either.

Hope that helps your analysis.

Also, if you "never think anything they make is awful", then you have no right to question anyones objectivity towards the band.

My issue with people bagging the peppers is that I dont think they've actually listened to the whole album, if any at all. Everyone has heard Dani California obviously (which I think is a great track by the way, although Im sick of hearing it every 15 minutes on the aus stereo crap at work) and some of you may have listened to a few other songs.

But to compare this album to BTW just seems extremely bizarre to me, and the only justification I can come up with is that those people either just dont want to like the peppers or they havent even given this album a chance.

Anyway, Im going to stop sticking up for them, people should make their own decisions.

Just listened to it for the first time and I'm a fan. I'll give it a few more listens before rating it properly but it sounds like their best album since One Hot Minute for mine. Californication was ok, By the way was rubbish. This is definitely a step in the right direction though.

Why is it that Chili fans assume that people "haven't listened to the whole album" when people say they don't like the album?

Because after Dani California, anyone who likes hard rock falls asleep before the end of the first album.

I still like By the Way and music from a personal experience is not objective, it is subjective and people shouldn't be aiming to shove their views down other throats. That's why I hate some music and movie reviewers. My opinion is the only thing that matters when it comes to my enjoyment of entertainment. I say 'Who the hell are you to tell me what's what, I'll make up my own mind thanks very much! don't try to steer me away from even seeing a movie if I really want to see it!

By the Way just doesn't fit alot of people's definition of what the Peppers style is supposed to be apparently. It departs too much from the earlier stuff for some, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

What songs on By the Way were so bad?

Not everyone was a fan of the Peppers back in their younger days, I became a fan after buying Californication and naturally looked forward to By the Way and also thought it was quite good, although not as good across the board. I had not really heard the earlier albums so I had nothing to compare By the Way to. Since I got Blood Sugar Sex Magik and One Hot Minute, particuarly BSSM, I am not as a big a fan of By the Way, but still have tracks like 'This is the Place', 'Throw Away Your Television' and

Bought Stadium Arcadium today and I'm giving it a first listen. Some of the songs show an enjoyable return to a funkier style but it doesn't have the youthful rocking edge of their late 80's/early 90's music, maybe coz the guys are like 43 years old now!
