Stadium Re-development Thread

I was aghast when I heard there were no such penalties in place. I'd be inclined to look at legalities towards the persons who agreed to not have them in place originally.
I’d completely agree with this. I’d be interested to know who signed it off and which legal team were involved. It’s so bad, such a basic requirement, it’s unheard of that there’d be no penalties or remuneration for delays, I’d also be having an investigation completed to see if said people who signed off on that had any financial links with the developers, either pre or post signing of a contract with no commercial protection in it.

They should finish building the club, sell the land that the football ground is on, and either work with the gov to build something somewhere else in the Shire or move to Allianz or whatever it's called these days. Currently it's all death by a thousand cuts and works in favour of those that would like to see us fail.
If the government would stump up cash to fund a new stadium, then surely it is cheaper to revamp the existing.

I have it from a reliable sauce that a major sticking point in getting gov stadium and CofE help has been our unwillingness to ‘share’. If we opened it up to co-ownership / got a partner or 2 for a centre of excellence…that’s a lot more palatable to any gov than just helping out 1 club from basically 1 seat who owns their own ground.

We’re not going to solely own any new ground anyway.

I think the club was run by well meaning yet vastly unqualified people. When we got the original green light for the development to stop us going bust I'm guessing we were taken for a ride and it has continued to snowball to this day.

Has anyone ever confirmed if the club has any commercial protection for these delays? We got paid whilst the ground was unavailable, is there any shortfall payment from the developers for lost revenue?

100% agree feej

where though? loftus Tafe?

What was Reefy's old suggestion? Was it Loftus or Sutho? I guess either could work.
It was Loftus. I'd say the best spot there would be where the Aussie Rules oval is.
I suggest the Govt would only come on board to build this if both the Sharks and the Dargons would be using it. A 25-30k all seater.
It's about 20 mins from Sharks Leagues, 22 mins from Kogarah Leagues and 40mins from WIN Stad.
The idea was floated about when a Chinese consortium wanted to put a team in the A-League to involve Southern Sydney and the Gong as a team.

Couldn't see the dargons ever agreeing to play in our territory and rightly so plus I wouldn't want them seedying the place up. Missed the boat with the soccer even if the A League is a waste of time with crowds of about 30.

Can't see a new stadium ever happening in our area unless we had a billionaire owner unfortunately.

The only way was tarting up our current ground instead of building apartments and hotels right on top of it but as I've said a million times that I suspect that was deliberate and the ground will just be swallowed up into yet more of the soulless apartment blocks that have swamped Sydney over the last 20 years or so.

At the moment I struggle to see a viable future for us in the Sutherland Shire

Sell it to council and with the agreement to redevelop Seymour Shaw at Miranda into a soccer/league stadium?

I have no doubt they wouldn't want to play there, I also have no doubt that it's the only way a Govt funded built stadium would come. Don't forget, they play out of Govt owned stadiums now that only get used a handful of times a year each for NRL games.
Please note that I am not advocating this idea, just being realistic on how it could possibly happen.
Unless the NRL buy half of Endeavour and spend cash on it, as I can't see any Govt spending much, I'd say the SFS will eventually become the "home" ground, with a load of buses from the Leagues Club and back.

you are 100% right on all this.

oh i think that second bit is what's gonna eventually happen. not them buying sharks, us playing at moore park.

the club, will face a point (racing towards that point atm) where the economics of playing at shark park simply cant compete with corporate money at sfs etc

Moore park will never happen. It just wouldn't make any sense. Same reason the Eagles eventually got their ground upgraded vs moving them to the SFS.

How they will do it I have no idea but eventually something will happen to keep us down here. People in 04 said we wouldn't be at Shark park. Same in 2014. Same in 2024. A shame we built it in as I can't see how you could fix it and even if you did knock it all down the people in the apartments would whinge like the dickheads who buy next door to a pub and complain.

Seymour Shaw
This is a cracking idea and would be the perfect location. Walk from the station. Not a ton of parking besides the shops and Westfield but you have a fair bit of land there to work with. Miranda hotel close for a beer/ton of restaurants at Westfield. You cut the commute for away fans by 15-20 minutes when you factor in walking from the station. We should embrace the entire Shire vs being Cronulla.

Perhaps we develop the golf course. Not sure how that works but I remember the land was a key part of the deal - eventually for apartments sure but hey we need land for a new stadium. No public transport though

Look I am nearly over the NRL as it is. If the Sharks move out of the Shire then that will probably do it for me.

The whole thing now is just a business, us supporters are just collateral damage.

I sit back and watch the local bush footy and just smile these days. So munch to like and it is not f**ked up like the big league boys and girls.

The club did have a facility at Loftus TAFE in the Chris Anderson era.

I did work experience with the club in 2003 when the football department was based out of there.

I’d be redeveloping the old Sutherland’s oval into a massive stadium/training development.
Could easily fit a BankWest style on that space.
moments from the train station.

carpark behind the old sus club. Maybe even purchase that and make it Into the new leagues club. Plenty of space in there for offices and pokies

For sure but it has to be in the Shire. Otherwise you have a soulless sydney team nobody wants. Souths are going back to their hood (but had a huge history before the homebush shit). Dogs play close to home. Manly plays in the Northern Beaches. Penrith in Penrith. Parra in Parra. Wests/dragons are the shit show and both because they do not have an identity. Ours is the poor merkin underdogs in the shire who don't back down or so we are trying to make it.

We need to forget politics and just vote the otherside in to put some pressure on. Panthers being in a swing seat or whatever getting them a new stadium is some bullshit. Sutherland council has more residents than Penriths. You can create a bullshit story to find the cash. Engadine, Yarrawah, Barden Ridge etc will all eventually be developed the way the rest of Sydney has.

The game is expanding not contracting. Cronulla will always represent the shire but we need to be as broad as possible with that messaging.
