Oh well, whatever planet it was then. The Republic ought to have some system in place by now to defend against giant planet lazers.

To be fair, those lazers was energy from a sun. There's probably nothing that could resist that. Ever.

I don't see why. I mean sucking the energy from an entire star into a tiny tiny planet is massive bullshit scientifically to begin with... Star Killer Base is shown to be about as big as the earth is to the moon, but the difference is the moon's circumference is over 10,000km, whilst the Death Star's is a measly 160km. That would make this planet a lot smaller than our moon.

So yeah, there's no way a tiny tiny planet/moon could hold en ENTIRE STAR in it after two charges, so it's a massively bullshit technology that could ever happen, so there's no reason there couldn't be an equally bullshit defence.

Maybe they had something that could defend against a death star blast.....but this thing was significantly more powerful. They were unaware of it's existance.

It's probably best we avoid science when talking about Star Wars... But since we are I'd like to point out that theoretically you could defend against a "star blast" like that in TFA. How? By inventing a device to warps space time around the planet. All energy has to pass through curved space, so theoretically if you could invent a device that warped space time in a controlled fashion you could effectively deflect a star blast like that

Hasn't been shown in Greece or India too apparently, though I'm not sure they're huge markets. India does had a billion people though. It's been shown in 70% of their market apparently.

It's a huge opening.

It hasn't opened in China, the biggest market of all, yet either!

It's got this habit of employing logic :p .

Seriously though, it is kinda a massive plot hole that the republic haven't tried to build a defence system after even the first death star, let alone 3.

lol that too maybe. Either way, the Republic clearly have some geniused people in charge of after like 50 years and 3 Death Stars they don't have something in place or are at least putting a f**k tonne of spies into the First Order (which wouldn't be hard since the storm troopers are apparently never allowed to take off their helmets lol)

You reckon storm troopers sleep with their helmets on and when taking a shower ?

Seriously, if storm trooper never allowed to take their helmets off, how do they eat?

Don't over think it.

This. Not only were they unaware but they didn't know where it was until Finn gave them all the information they needed - remember he was a sanitation trooper on the planet, cleaning up all the trooper poo. I thought the timing of this information vs their planet being the next target was a little too perfect for me . Although I'm sure if I was 10 years old, I wouldn't be thinking about this irelevant sh*t.

When I heard that J J Abrams was going to be involved in the new Star Wars film, I was ecstatic what he did in rebooting Star Trek was excellent totally new story, but all he did with Star Wars was rehash a new hope.

The funny thing is that I'm pretty sure the whole "sanitation" thing was just chucked in for that one gag. Now it's become a big point of criticism. They should have just left everyone thinking he was a run-of-the mill, white uniformed killing machine. Which he obviously was, because why else would you take a sanitation guy on a slaughter mission?

The very first scene was his first time as our typical Storm Trooper being sent out to kill people, and he didn't even pull a trigger. Right from the start there any chance of selling him as a simple "white uniformed killing machine" went out the window, which was kind of the point, he leaves the First Order because he can't just blindly kill who he is told to kill.

I don't see the problem with Storm Troopers having side jobs. Real life soldiers don't just sit around waiting for a skirmish to break out, still have the usual chores.

Besides, who else would clean up the poop?
