They were. Literally. I thought JJ said they tried to keep CGI to a minimum and went for more models instead. Pity they CGI'd Snoke. He looked everything that is wrong with CGI.

I think you should hold off on judging Snoke's appearance until we see him in the flesh, all his scenes in this movie he was just a hologram so would rightfully look very digital.

I reckon when we see him in VIII he'll look great. Much more Gollom than Jar Jar

I'm not so sure I'm thrilled with Gollum either TBH... I mean I know you mean in terms of the quality of character etc, but Snoke actually does look very Gollum like and it's a bit weird

yeah, not thrilled with seeing Ja Ja or Gollum.

I think a bit of mystery with Snoke would have made it interesting. Perhaps hiding behind a hod (oh no, not another hod we would all be saying!) or perhaps we didn't need to see anything, maybe just a dark room where Ren and G. Hux reported in to and all you can hear is Snokes evil voice? that would have added to the mystery.

The voice actor of Snoke didn't know what Snoke would actually look like close to the premiere of the actual movie. I fear that Snoke may be completely CGI throughout the series. I hope that's not the case because having an actor play him would be great.

Bit of mystery with Snoke too. His face has bad scarring. My first thought is that someone's used force lightning on him in the past. Jedi don't use that technique so it'd be a Sith or someone from the dark side. He's old. We know he's familiar with the events of the original trilogy.

Perhaps he was another apprentice of Sideous? An apprentice of Vader that Sideous found out about?

So there is a fan theory going around that kylo ren has turned to the dark side in a wild twist to kill snoke. This is all a part of a plan created by Luke skywalker. Ren killing all the jedi's didn't actually happen and it was all a smoke screen to get in with snoke. Killing Hahn was a necessity to continue this plan. The theory goes on to say that eventually it will take the power of ren, skywalker and rey combined to kill snoke.

A bit far fetched but you never know.

I think somewhere in the next 2 movies there will be a massive plot twist that no one will see coming.

I agree with the plot twist. But not that. No way would Luke or any Jedi allow all that to happen, all those lives ruined or killed for the sake of finding Snoke. He'd find another way.

I think Ren will turn good at the last second. Just like Vader. The internal struggle for Kylo is he's struggling to resist the light side inside him. He doesn't seem to know that Vader also struggled with the good in him and eventually turned good again.

I think the next movie will solidify Kylo as the bad guy and introduce a twist. Like Empire did for Vader and revealing himself as Luke's father.

I think that when we actually see Snoke the fear of him looking out of place or weird will go away.

For a start, the character is being motion captured by Serkis, so all actors will have an actual person to react to and act against. And secondly, every character Serkis has been involved in has always been brilliant IMO. He is the master of this craft and will make it work.

Snoke is not going to be some a General Grievous computer game character

Saw an interview with Serkis where he said that the bone structure/design of Snoke made it physically impossible to create the look using prosthetics and because of that it will definitely be all CGI.

I can see them needing the combined power of Luke/Rey/Ren to beat Snoke, but I can't see it being a grand plan where Han needed to be sacrificed.

I think the more likely thing is for Ren, if they do go with an eventual redemption storyline, is to come to realise that Vader sacrificed himself to save Luke because there was good still in him (why he doesn't already know this? I don't know). So in a way his obsession to live up to Vader comes full circle.

Would prefer they didn't go that way and kept Ren bad for the whole time. The similarities between the original Star Wars and this one were numerous, but not sure I'd like to see them mimic Empire and ROTJ beat for beat and plot point for plot point.

Voice actor? Serkis was the mocap actor... voice and all.

Watched it again yesterday in 2D, picked up a few things i missed.

Still enjoyed it quite a deal, looking forward to the second one.

The most similar thing was the star killer base, the rest was only really as similar as all sorts of adventure movies. Most block busters use pretty much the same basic structure so its hardly surprising.

Watched it again over the weekend after having binge watched the original trilogy, and some of my original negatives have actually been removed. Specifcally, Rey's almost immediate ability to use the force no longer seems so silly.

Much has been made about Rey being able to use the force without any training compared to Luke having to go train with Yoda, when in actual fact Luke is using the force long before he has received any of that training. The scene that people seemed to really hate - Rey being able to force grab luke's lightsaber in the snow - is no different to Luke doing the same thing while on Hoth. In fact Luke uses the force quite a bit with only the tiniest bit of training (the blast helmet thing).

Harrison Ford's enthusiasm in this movie is also way up compared to ROTJ. If he mailed it in like he did in Crystal Skull this movie would have bombed massively.

Saw it again and it's just such easy entertainment, I'd see it a couple more times if I had the funds. A few little irking scenes but overall it's great.

So nobody had a problem that the film was a rehash of a new hope????

Same people who aren't happy Kylo Ren isn't another Darth Vader probably...

Honestly though, not really. Most of the plot was different enough to make it enjoyable. Hopefully it's not another Death Star/Planet weapon in Episode IX though  Then it might get old.

I saw those rehashed moments more as a vehicle to introduce the new characters and bring that familiar star wars feel. I think the next two movies will be much different.

Just saw it yesterday

I really loved the film. Took me back to being a kid watching the original movie

Yes it feels like a remake but who gives a f**k ?

Really interested to see who Rey's parents are and Fin's parentage

I know this might be controversial and being a Disney film I'm way off but did anyone else get a man love vibe between Po and Fin ? Could we be looking at a bit of gay love in the Star Wars universe ? Just the scenes they had together when Fin sees Po and realises he's alive, the way he looked at him made me think there was some furious deep dicking about to go down.

Great to see Han, Leia, c3po, R2D2, chewy and luke once more.

I even liked they had a fat bearded x wing fighter as well as the rodent looking pilot attacking the Death Star on steroids.
