2D blu-ray will be just fine, i have a 3D tv and blu-ray player, but it's a novelty that just didn't catch on in this household.

what exactly is a "digital platform release"?

itunes etc.??

Yeah digital is iTunes and equivalent.

The first few movies I got with those I put on my computer but never have watched them on my phone or iPad or computer. I certainly don't get any benefit out of it.

i hate 3D unless it was actually filmed in 3D using the proper cameras

if it was filmed in 2D then that is the way the Director intended for it to be seen

I'm hoping there will be a Blu Ray release with 3d, 2d, deleted scenes and features so there will be no need to double dip six months down the line.

I think it is going to be 3 discs; Blu Ray, Blu Ray Extras and DVD.

Have you ever stopped at buying just one version of a Star Wars film before?

I have the original theatrical releases on dvd and that's where I stops. I refuse to buy the originals on blu ray unless they come out the same way. Won't buy the prequels on blu ray either.

For DVD/Blu-Ray releases I find Ezy DVD's website about the most reliable in terms of release dates. They are showing them as being released on 31 December 2016 -

Last time I looked, these were slated for an April 2016 release. Looks like some "bright" spark at Disney have decided to hold back the release here till the end of the year.

This article at the Den of Geek website gives a few clues, and some ideas about what extras may be on the set - http://www.denofgeek.com/dvd-bluray...-the-force-awakens-dvd-and-blu-ray-art-extras

Mate, they aren't going to hold off an Australian release until more than a year after cinema release. Be realistic. Having worked in ecommerce I can tell you that date would mean "we don't know the the release date yet". We used to do it all the time whenever there was a title we wanted to get pre sales rolling on.

This, if you look at quite a few games or Blu-Ray's that have been announced to come out this year but no confirmed date it will have 31-12-2016.

I was just thinking today... in episodes 4 and 7 there are references made to the Millennium Falcon having escape pods yet we've never seen them.

Therefore in episode 8 or 9 I would like to see them used. I'm envisioning an epic lightsabre duel on board between Luke and Kylo Ren after Luke puts Rey in one of the pods to save her.

You may work in e-commerce, but I've been using Ezy DVD's website for over a decade and it is about the most reliable site I have seen regarding release dates in Australia for DVDs/Blu-Rays. Fact is until I checked it on the date I originally posted, their site was showing an April 2016 release date.

I just re-checked it now prior to this post, and it is showing that the DVD and Blu-Ray is due for release on 13 April 2016.

I've seen an announcement video saying the release date is 5 April, maybe that's for other countries and ours is a week later.

I just received an e-mail from Ezy DVD saying that it is being released on 13 April 2016. This is what is showing on their website and also now on JB HiFi's website too.

I dare say 5 April 2016 is for other countries.
