I wasn’t a big fan of TLJ but liked some parts of it. Too much non-fitting humour, and the whole canto bite sequence are my main issues (and a few things with Luke). I grew up watching the OT on video repeatedly and even mostly enjoyed the prequels for the story, characters and action.
But, I love going back to this universe and can’t wait for Ep9 and also Mandalorian (whenever we get it in aus?)

They weren't real Mandalorians. Clone Wars series goes into it a little. They are all Nordic looking.

Be cool to see Aquaman's dad appear as a Sarlac surviving Boba Fett.

Apart from the cackle it was a pretty bland teaser tbh.

The only positive this early on is we all know that TROS couldn’t possibly be any worse than TLJ....

I mean seriously it couldn’t could it?

I tried rewatching that tripe for the first time since cinemas last week and I actually hated it even more, I have no desire to watch it again. So many things annoyed me but overall it was just f**king boring imo. I struggled to get through it.

Every other Star Wars film I’ve watched countless times, even the Jar Jar trilogy.

Cmon man, star wars has always had wacky physics - explosions in space, spaceships going down after crashing, bombs going down exhaust ports.

As well as nonsensical plots and characters. Boba Fett and stormtroopers in the originals were comedy value.

And in isolation, it's fine. Yeah the physics of the death star battle in ANH are based of WW2 dogfights and don't make sense. But the rest of the movie holds up, so it's ok.

When it is one nonsensical, illogical decision after the other eventually it stops holding up.

That is true to an extent, but it was mainly about them not being able to shoot straight.

Hux is the equivalent of Grand Moff Tarkin who was most definitely not reduced to a cartoonish buffoon in the original trilogy.

Star Wars was created by George Lucas was to get people loving the Ancient Myths again the father and son conflict and journey of redemption is a totally ancient Greek story, the characters like Yoda Chinese myth of warriors doing extraordinary things...The force getting to Know god.

TLJ is on Stan. Disneys trolling me by putting that on and not rogue squadron. When I scroll through and see it I can almost sense the movie mocking me.

Well you probably arent going to give intel to someone you've just demoted, especially when there is a leak aboard. I know a lot of people have a problem with the Dern character but I found her alright - agree it wouldve been great to give Ackbar the kamikaze send off.

As for lectures, its in keeping with the long winded intergalactic trade economic spiels of the prequels.

I'm not defending TLJ. There were a few 4th wall moments - prank call, laser swords etc. I just think 2 movies in of the last trilogy and not a whole lot has happened. I blame TFA for that. There was no reason to rehash plot lines and action sequences. I mean the stupid Snoke diversion was almost as bad as the casino bit. Meanwhile there has been no development of Rey or Kylo. They are literally the same as they were at the beginning.

Basically how I see it. Both the new Star Wars movies are acceptable popcorn movies (of course Star Wars should be better than that).

The problem is absolutely nothing really happens. Some characters we all love get killed, which makes sense because they're getting on/passing on IRL, but it doesn't advance or even help the story. You have so many diversions that would be fine if they were a sub-plot to something worthwhile, but they just aren't.

For eg I think Kylo has the makings of a genuinely excellent character. He's a rage filled outcast with superpowers trying to find his place in the world. He's full of self-loathing and self-doubt and he wants to be something he knows he can't. But they've just done nothing with him.

Both movies have been basically a series of random, barely interconnected events in space with no real effort at creating a coherent plot.

Bringing back JJ for the third movie just shows what a shit storm Disney made for themselves. If he at the very least had the whole trilogy to direct and plan out story wise we might of got a competent trilogy.

As soon as ya momma joke appeared in the first five minutes I knew we were getting a pile of garbage. Plus I almost fell asleep in GC as it was dragging on.

That’s probably the best way I’ve heard it described that I agree with.
The thing that keeps me eating it up is I love the Universe. Love the feeling of the world/s. Keeps me coming back no matter the quality of the actual film/show.

I literally laughed out loud in the cinema when she passed out after that "save what we love!" nonsense. And it was a pretty long laugh too, at least 10-15 seconds of solid laughing followed by intermittent chuckling for a while after that. Everyone at the screening would have heard it.

And at the time I thought she died!

That was shit. Noble sacrifice was a perfect end to his arc. That movie had a real problem killing anyone besides Laura Dern and Gollum.

Fingers crossed Villenueve Smashes Dune out of the park so we can collectively move on from this franchise.

The TFA was ok but Jedi was the last straw for me. However, I really liked Rogue and even the Solo movie.
