I agree with this, that’s partly why I am so keen for Maloney to move on now, I think we are only going to start seeing IF Cleary can get better once he’s thrown in the deep hand. He’s to happy to sit back, follow instructions and be second fiddle to jimmy right now and that’s not jimmys fault I know but we need to know of Cleary/Luai can get it done the sooner the better.

I thought Qld were good things in Game 1 and so it proved. They are specials now to win the series particularly with Klemmer likely to miss the remaining two games.

Fittler has some selection headaches for Game 2, although regardless of what he does I think Qld will get the job done in Perth and wrap up the series.

For an unfit team Nathan has a ridiculous workrate. Averaging 96 metres a minute is insane. It's those sorts of efforts that helped him keep his Origin jersey despite being in average form in a terrible team. Fittler loves players putting in extra efforts.

Obviously he wasnt a standout in the game. But he easily outperformed the likes of Mitchell, Walker and Wighton so effort alone probably earns him one more game. You know Nathan won't f**k the team over if nothing else.

But we lose Game 2 and I think he's gone Game 3 and possibly dropped well down the pecking order for 2020. I think this will be the end of his rep career in the short term atleast

I have to agree, QLD just have a team full of more naturally gifted & intuitive players - they always do.

This is why you give him a good halves partner. Not a flashy player but he'll work hard for the team. Cook needs to actually listen to him and not hog the ball and the team will be fine.

One thing that gives me hope with Nathan is that Mitch Pearce has improved quite a bit over his career.

Hate to be a Debbie downer but statistically he peaked from years 4 to 7

In those years he had his peak in try assists & tries

Since year 8 he’s been in decline. (Although not a dramatic decline as he had a few years where he didn’t play the full season.

I can’t argue with the stats but I still think he’s much better footballer now then earlier in his career.

There’s always some intangibles, I guess his leadership might have improved.

Problem is his stats were always at a higher level than Cleary’s. We’d be really lucky to get that type of career out of Nathan.

I think they have better player development in the juniors in QLD. They encourage more ball playing and skill and it pays off later in a players development.

Could RCG be in line for an origin recall given the injury to David Klemmer?

Might just be the tonic he needs to lift him to a couple of really big performances in the next two games?

Stranger things have happened.

Last night Fittler said he is watching RCG and two other props (can’t remember who he named) who are in contention for game 2.

It is also another reason why he would be an excellent, 80 minute plus capable, hooker.

I think Origin could be good for RCG. Confidence builder. But how is he ahead of Tamou for a spot?

Tamou has been our best front rower by a fair margin this year. RCG has outpkayed him once or twice. But as a shole Tamou hasn't been awful in any games while RCG has had a few shockers.
