State of Origin 2K19 Discussion

Until he gets injured.

Do you really want Blake Ferguson or Chad Townsend kicking the game deciding goal from the sideline? We are rolling the dice without a proper back up.

I dunno, can’t imagine the goal kicking of the backup is a big consideration.

Also Townsend kicked at 74% last year, and 87% this year (off a smaller base this year)

In Origin you need to do what you're told. Thurston/Cronk worked well enough didn't it?

Its 3/4 of last years spine intact. Bring in Reynolds, who already has Origin and finals experience and a club relationship with Damien Cook since 2016. Give him a job and he will do it.

I can't argue with that.

Well not the biggest consideration but I'd be highly surprised if they just gloss over it. 2 points is worth a lot in any game of football, particularly Origin.

Townsend's stats weren't too bad last year. This year only 8 attempts. So I don't really know if he is really good enough. Or even kicking enough. Guess it depends on what he is doing at training.

If we happen to lose game 3 due to not having a competent back up we will be kicking ourselves. Literally.

For me it depends how Walker goes in the next couple of rounds. If he's stops being invisible (like he was against us) I'd give him another shot alongside Jimmy. He's been tearing it up all year and you'd think he'd show more in his second Origin match in Sydney than he did in his first in Brisbane.

Only one round before the side is named. It is why I don't expect changes I guess Wighton can be a kicking option if needed

Yeah back then he was being played as a half. In the backrow we had Gavin Cooper, Frank Prithchard, Luke Lewis, Trent Waterhouse....House and Lewis were origin reps at that stage. We also Petero, Jennings, Gordan play origin that year and Pritchard of course was an international.

The mistake we made was not moving him to the backrow, but given the players in front of him we really didn't need him there.
I think the mistake was preferring Travis Burns in the 6 for the vast majority of 2010.

So much for having players fit and playing for their clubs prior to Origin games. Guess we have to make an exception for the NSW halfback.
I think it's gone like this - Freddy asks Jimmy who he wants next to him and Jimmy gets who he wants. Who are we to question him?

We just need a half that can compliment Maloney.

Townsend, Pearce and Cleary will all do that.

You could put Tamou at half and Jimmy would still get you a shot at winning the game

For me its all about plan B. What happens when Maloney goes down? Who takes over?

Its why I don't expect Graham or Wighton at 5/8. If Cleary is fit and Fittler does a 360 on his original criteria for team selection then so be it.
