I disagree that it is becoming a farce. If anything SOO is the farce and the International game is a cannibalised victim of it

I was thinking the other night i would be interested to see what the NRL would do if Sonny Bill Williams said "I will commit to Rugby League 110% if I am allowed to play STate of Origin..."

QLDers have destroyed it; they're too parochial about it. It's true; they're QLDers first, Aussies second. SOO first, NRL premiership second. QLD first, broncos second. There's always countless maroons jerseys at broncos games, in comparison to the blues jerseys you see at NSW nrl games. And they never get passionate at broncos games like they do at QLD SOO games. Not once have I ever heard a broncos chant !

Godz we agree but from different angles.
SOO, is in my opinion nothing more than a mid season money making, monster, that from a $$$ perspective is no farce. Qualifications, borders, parents, etc change to suit these 3 games.
International pride for some of these emerging talents has been... yes... cannibalised by SOO.

i have no problem at all with a player from another country being able to play BOTH state of origin and for his country if he's good enough..... provided the player has come through the junior NRL ranks.. eg Adrian Lam, Segyaro and costigan should be allowed to play for both QLD and PNG. its good for both origin and the development of player talent on an international level to make other countries more competitive, which is good for the game.

I do have a problem with someone like Sam Burgess playing origin after coming straight off the plane, with no NRL junior development or experience...this is where the line should be drawn.

You have a point nick but there a lot of qlders that really hate the broncos. Qld lives and breathes origin but to be honest, many had no idea qlders played for nsw pre 1980. The dragons have to be most supported team up here maybe rabbitohs or bulldogs as well. Before 1988 it was simply the nsw comp. A llot of qlders jumped shipped on the broncos but many stayed loyal to st george or whoever and passed it on. As much as the average footy fan will say broncos are qld, the old school loyalist will despise the donkeys with a passion... Kind of like me. They have not win a thing since Bennett moved in anyway. Up in north qld the broncos are well supported but openly hated by any other staunch base. Have you seen the under 20s and 16s scores in origin? nsw are killing it. Once jt and slater, smith move on may well be nsw that turn parochial. Some kids have never watched nsw win. Now that breeds a killer. Qld for ten years by the way. You heard it here first.

SOO lost it's integrity a while back. Bowraville's Greg Inglis and Minto's Israel Folau made a mockery of it even before Kiwi James Tamou pulled on a blue jumper. The Burgess twins have been NSWelshman longer than Inglis was a Queenslander.

And I don't see the issue of players representing countries they weren't born or raised in. If it's ok for South African Kevin Pieterson to play cricket for England, or Sydney born and raised Ante Seric to play soccer for Croatia, it's ok for the Sims brothers to play for Fiji.

Origin already lets players choose which state for regardless of where they were born or raised or whatever. It's not truly representative. So I say stop being racist. Open it up to everyone.
They changed that rule earlier in the year for next year on. Now you must have resided in NSW or Qld before the age of 12 (13 maybe). It will stop the Inglis, potential Burgess situations.

Also, according to International regulations SOO does not affect International eligibility, therefore we saw Minichiello in 2012 represent NSW in Origin & Italy at the end of the year.
But Origin is a domestic competition and the ARL are fully entitled to rule that only those available for Australian selection are eligible; therefore in 2013 Minichiello was no longer available for NSW.

Good to see the ARL finally stepping in to sort out origin. im a QLD supporter through and through but i cannot stand the fact that we have had players like Tonie Carroll, Brad Thorn and Karmichael Hunt who are Kiwi's play for us because they wanted the money. State of Origin is becoming to much like the Interstate series before origin where their were QLD'ers playing for NSW and hence why NSW won so many of those matches.

We're the most supported team in QLD? That is a bold statement. Anyone with Weipa on this one, especially people based in QLD like Willow?

This has been a long held sentiment. Many who have traveled up for games against Brisbane and the Gold Coast have commented that it's like being at a home game at times. There is usually plenty of Saints supporters at the games coming through on TV coverage.

To put the sentence correctly, out if the non qld teams, saints would be number one supported in banana bender country from what I've seen. Rabbitohs for a fair few too. I think dragons would match titans supporters in qld. Watched the titans and dragons home games and its neck and neck. We usually get up on the titans too... Oh when the saints go marching in...
