Retraction - Editorial Issue
R2K would like to offer a correction on an article that was sent to
the R2K Yahoo list on 1/3/04 -Steelers owe St.George $8.29 million.
The article should have stated that Illawarra were facing financial
issues at the end of the 1998 season, rather than stating that
Illawarra was 'reportedly bankrupt'. While some individuals may had
alleged this in the past, the claim is without foundation.
Is it just me, or is there a paragraph in there which sounded strangely divisive.. or a tad condescending? At the very least, a generalisation.Buzz Boy said:Simon, I'm in total agreeance with you.
I was a St George fan but now whole-heartedly support thr JV because they are my team. St George would have been fully aware of the financial situation of the Steelers before entering into any agreement.
The Illawarra has long been one of the richest sources of junior talent in rugby league and there is atleast one club I know of who are feeling terribly blocked in right now and regretting not coming to the table when the Steelers were willing to talk.
The JV was never going to make everyone happy... but fortunately for each year that passes, another group of youngsters are coming through as ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA fans and the old partisan fans who bag our club will become even more of a minority.
I get as upset as anyone at the performances of the Dragons. But blaming the JV for that is completely wrong. Strangely enough, the old die-hard St George fans (God bless them) want to point the finger at Barrett instead of where the true problem lies... the coach.
The club should never have put Browny in this situation so soon, it was unfair to him. I know he's doing his best, but you can't afford to have an NRL coach learning the job at the top level. Sorry Browny.
Up the Mighty Dragons!!!

Why on earth would you switch clubs? :?

Ahh yes, the Rugby League El Dorado. Do you know what happened to the explorers who went in search of for the riches of that mythical city Buzz? They got lost and died.

That's pure conjecture.

I started supporting St George because I grew up in Turrella. Likewise most Illawarra fans supported the Steelers because they where their local club. I think in the future kids in both regions will grow up wondering why they should support a club that plays half its games (or more) in another city and will either be less passionate about their 'local' club or just end up supporting another side all together.
I think the future will herald a great fall in the number of St George Illawarra supporters leading to a great decline in the presence of the club on the Rugby League scene and eventually leaving it in a Wests Tigers like position.
With any luck the club will fold leaving St George and Illawarra fans to support their repective clubs in whatever competition they end up in. And the merger fans can again effortlessly make the switch to another NRL club.
Everyone's a winner.

Yes, how ridicules to blame the club for five years of pure mediocrity. Who would you blame Buzz? The old partisans?

Nice to see you too Denis!
Who said anything about switching clubs?
What the f*ck are you on? El Dorado was a myth... are you saying that the juniors that have come from the Illawarra are a myth? Surely you're not that blinded by rage that anything other than Kogarah born is a myth.
You'd know, you've been living on conjecture for how many years now?
I just want what every other Dragons fan wants... a team that goes out onto the field and puts in 100% each and every game.
You must be ever so proud... stick your head back in the sand, it's warmer there.

:?
Good to see Denis single minded in his drive to see the Demise of the Dragons
Denis you are the avatar of stasis. You deny and resist change with blind denial.
drake said:Fair enough, as I stated in the other post I unfairly went at you, I'm fed up of being harrassed at games by drunken morons who hate the merger. If you hate the merger and don't follow "the Dragons", leave after reggies when St George stand alone version are finished. Why waste your time watching Thommo, Gaz, Ting, and a bunch of Illawarrans play.
A Parramatta supporter here at work was looking over my shoulder yesterday when I was reading this thread said to me "You old Saints fans are funny. You pay out the Illawarrans, but name me one St George local juniour that's done well these last few years, especially done better than the Illawarra boys." I said "Thommo," to which he nodded. Then I said "Gaz," too which he laughed and said "if that blokes surname was anything else, he'd be in reserves." And walked off.
Problem was, I couldn't think of a decent comeback.
Can you?
