I'm not a massive wrap on him either, but at leats he is young enough to get better. Our other options (barring another prop signed) are:
Faas (not a starter)
Tolar (universally hated, despite the fact that I respect him a lot)
Taufua (not a prop)
Simmo (over the hill)
Cross (a pricey re-signing)
Ailaomai / Finn etc (kids)
this is what worries me. your list - and my thoughts:
Faas (not a starter) - spot on. will always be an impact forward i think. he is cheap and earns his way in my opinion. one of only 2 of our forwards who consistently runs onto the ball.
Tolar (universally hated, despite the fact that I respect him a lot) - pillow in attack, but does his best. i don't think he's universally hated, but he would struggle for a bench spot in a premiership winning pack i think. i'd be happy enough to keep him from the bench, once again he would be cheap and he is technically sound in defence.
Taufua (not a prop) - yep. not a prop. hard bastard in defence, but doesn't run onto the ball or run with as much gusto as he could.
Simmo (over the hill) - sadly, yes. over the hill. couldn't deal with the physicality required in the middle of the park. if he's to be retained, it must be on reduced wages.
Cross (a pricey re-signing) - not playing to his paycheque. can't see him staying, to be honest. i would say money and other self-interests are his prime motivators.
Ailaomai / Finn etc (kids) - Ailaomai will probably make first grade as an impact forward. from what i have seen of him (limited, i'll admit)... he has a lot of go-forward, but not much of a motor. i'm not sure the rest of the kids have what it takes. regardless, im not sure if he's better than Richie... and he would be filling the exact same role i would say.
we are in a shocking situation, i suppose. my problem is that our recruitment doesn't seem to be improving the situation as much as is required. not even close. what concerns me even further is the amount we are talking these sorts of blokes up in the papers... if you were a league fan you'd be forgiven for thinking Kaufusi was one of the best forwards in the game judging by the spin in the papers.
