I'm very thanful that some of the ideas in this thread will never even be considered... playing a GF in WA...ffs
yeah.... i agree... who would want to spread the game...

i mean... the only competitions that put the finals up for contention are the European Champions League and the Superbowl...

we keep our final in the same place forever so we can be like the AFL...

look at all the Sydney-centric jokers in this thread ... this is a gee up ? surely

Sydney don't have a mortgage on hosting it forever ... get over yourselves

start getting bums on seats ... every single week, or stfu

but we know this won't happen, too many teams wah wah wah ... merge or die etc etc etc

and read my sig

Oink !

 When Brisbane has 8 teams all getting higher crowds than the Sydney teams, you might have a case for it being the "heartland of Rugby League". Spoken like a devoted reader of The Courier Mail...

Totally different scenario's. The Superbowl is HUGE, he biggest sporting event on the calender in the USA. It attracts worldwide interest. The NRL grand final is BIG in NSW and QLD. It attracts interest from the south and west but nowhere near the level that would justify moving the Grand Final.

Champion League is enormous and its soccer, the WORLD GAME. Almost every country in Europes number one sport. Also its a INTERNATIONAL club competition. Ofcourse they gonna move the finalaround. I can see arguements in moving the GF from Sydney to Brisbane. I can even see arguments moving it to melbourne. But Perth, Adelaide those type of places? No way.

Just The Daily Telegraph, from memory. The difference between Sydney people and Brisbane people is, down here we know our local News Ltd. paper is a rag. North of the Tweed it's taken as gospel!

so what your saying is instead of turning the game into something the whole of Australasia can mark on there calender like the superbowl is in the USA... we should just stay in NSW & QLD forever...

if the AFL want to keep the GF in Melbourne let them do it... why cant RL be the pace setters once in awhile...

I find it laughable that people here pull out tradition at times like it has always been this way.

If we were to talk of changing the day of the GF you would hear people here start to talk of respecting tradition. Of course they would coneniently ignore the fact that Sundays have only been the case for around 30 years. Remember traditions are ALWAYS started because of pragmatic decisions in the first place.

Tradition is only ever valuable when it is an asset to the people in general. Australia has had alot of irrelevant backward 'traditions' but at times we need to move on.

The real question must be - Does this benefit RL in Australia NOW and into the future?

If it can be ascertained that a move at times to other Cities in in the best interests of RL in Australia (and wider) then move it.

It is arrogant and ignorant of some Sydney fans to believe that they have a birthright to hold something simply because it has always been that way. Sydney is a HUGE asset to RL but it's insistence on preserving its own existence (even by damaging the future of the code at times) puts the whole code in a dangerous place.

I want to give you a couple other traditions in RL

1. Sydney teams have won virtually EVERY GRANDFINAL in history.

Solution: We must kick out these non Sydney teams that stop Sydney teams from winning every year.

2. Grandfinals have mainly been played on Saturdays not Sundays. It is time to go back to tradition.

Solution: Back to Saturdays head to head with the AFL

3. The Sydney premiership has always primarily been a semi pro comp. The idea of players not laying bricks on a thursday and playing on a Sat night is absurd.

Solution: Lets cut the slary Cap to One hundred thousand (or less) - it will ensure survival and we will have more money for piss ups after.

4. Players have traditionally been drawn from residential regions

Solution: reinforce this - then prepare to watch Parra and Penrith win every year. Oh and watch Roosters die. Don't worry it is a tradition to let teams die in RL.

5. Western Suburbs traditionally do not come from Campbelltown

Solution: Move them back to around Lidcomb - lets be honest this will help in the inner city fight with Union and Aussie Rules

6. Brand spanking new stadiums like Parramatta Stadium and their manicured grass are just are not found in the history of RL

Solution: Its time to go back to the true roots of RL - the local ovals. By doing so we free up people from attending on such a regular basis so they can all play.

7. Dally Messenger did not play on TV so why do these modern players. It is just not the same anyway as being there.

Solution: Stop broadcasting RL on TV then surely the crowds will be bigger

Rugby League by its very nature as a game and as a culture has been pragmatic in its development from day one. It has always done what is best for the people NOT THE ESTABLISHMENT (remember it was established as a rebellion against the establishment). I have no doubt the idea of the Grandfinal being played in Brisbane and even Melbourne and Auckland as the culmination of a competition including teams from all across Australasia would have excited and pleased the founders of RL in Australia.

It is time we got back to the roots of RL, and that is not found in the soil of Sydney but in the ethos of it. In its aim to provide the best spectacle to the spectators, the best conditions for its players. The best platforms for expansion. That is the roots of RL.

Ps. If it is found in the best interests of RL in Australia to keep it in Sydney then that is what we do.

Oh. Ps those who argue that it shouldn't be moved because of capacity issues.

DID YOU ARGUE TO MOVE THE GF TO BRISBANE WHEN ANZ WAS BIGGER THAN THE SFS?

The capacity of Suncorp is 52,500

Does anyone know if it is possible to updrade the stadium? Doesn't look like more seats can be added, but if they wanted to upgrade to say 60,000 would they be able to

Grand Final Week

Thursday night - Allstars game @ New Melbourne Stadium

Friday night - Toyota Cup GF @ Suncorp Stadium or Skilled Stadium (So much talent on display. Might not draw sell out crowds but would be great exposure for Toyota Cup. Modelit similar to how the Americans do college sports. Given the youngsters centre stage.

Sunday Night - NRL GF @ ANZ Stadium Sydney

HUGE REVENUE for NRL. 2 more games for TV. Widespread coverage all week. Includes Melbourne and Brisbane in Grand Final week.

Not saying the GF should be moved but I think this highlighst the fact that a 52K stadium in Brisbane is WAY too small. Needed to be 65K at the least

Problem with moving the GF.

1) Sharks v Penrith GF crowd at Suncorp =??????
2) Lower ground capacity = lower revinues.
3) GF traditionally filled with season ticket holders - this is a reward for purchasing a season ticket - what we are beginning to call memberships. Are we trying to encourage memberships?
4) Only one Brisbane team. Makes as much sense to play the GF at Ericson.
5) The NRL GF at ANZ prevents AFL moving their GF to Sydney.
6) Trade off - Brisbane gets most rep games already.
7) If you want a GF bidding war - let ANZ fight it out with the SFS and SCG.
8) Sydney has leage games every week of the season. Brisbane - every second week. Why give it to a part time League city?
9) Great home ground advantage to the Broncos.
10) We'll swap ya the GF for 2 Origins - and you are only alowed to pick Queenslanders in your Origin side.

I reckon the GF should stay in Sydney for all the reasons mentioned here. If the Broncos made the grand final, I would jump at the chance to make the pilgrimage down to Sydney with fellow Broncos supporters. I just don't think it would seem as special at Suncorp.

Refreshing attitude. ANZ is as close to a neutral ground as you can get.

Plus, anyone thought of the point in the lower grades playing a GF at Suncorp?

Sydney population = 4,285,000 with 9 teams, average 476,111 fans per side.

Brisbane/GC/SC population = 2,690,000 with 2 teams, average 1,345,000 fans per side.
If we take off the S/C population it comes down to 1.2 million fans per side.

The Apathetic Brisbanites have 3 year to pull their fingers out. To build an 85k stadium and introduce some more teams.

If they are too scared to have a SECOND team, then lets take it to Canberra.

I wouldnt mind seeing the GF shared around. I reckon you could work it out by averages. 16 teams - 9 in sydney. Sydney get it 9 out of 16 years - NZ once in 16, Melbourne 1 in 16 - QLD 3 in 16 ect.ect.
