Super League - Round One attendances

I thought only one spot was up for grabs, with the league leaders doing battle with the lowly SL team. A separate match from the super 8s finals.

That us true but the championship clubs could occupy top 3 spots in the qualifers to go up. But would be very unlikely considering the gap in quality

This round's average in Super League was down on last week: 9,250.

Amazing effort from Leigh and Bradford fans! Unbelievable, that London are already the least supported club even in the Championship, so far!

Catalans posted a crowd of 9,169...

9169 spectateurs aujourd'hui à Brutus

...but Super League posted one of 6,584 on the website...

If not given to them by Catalans themselves then where'd they get their number from?

Really? Not sure either, but I calculated that based on the smaller of the two figures.

2,234 was the average for Round 1 of the Championship and looking ahead to this weekend's fixtures, I hope that figure will hold fairly steady. If every match can get 1000 then Bradford and Halifax can get 9000 between the two matches.

Doncaster vs Featherstone
Bradford vs Whitehaven
Halifax vs Leigh
Hunslet vs Batley
Workington vs Dewsbury
Sheffield vs London

I believe it was due to issues with their stadium meaning they had to play at an alternate venue.

So sad that Sheffield are having to play their home matches at Doncaster. Surely there was a better option than that?

Very sad indeed.

How many Championship Clubs could reach an average of 10,000 fans over a few years if they were promoted to SL?
Leigh and Bradford?

There's a Rugby Union ground in Rotherham called called Clifton Lane, capacity is 2,500. Surely this would have been the best option. Much closer to Sheffield and Keepmoat must cost a fortune! (especially when only 300 fans are turning up)

Remember im talking 3 years of sustained SL. How many could they average in say year 4 of SL.
Again, Bradford and that's it. The likes of Widnes don't come close and they are a much, much bigger club than Leigh.

Don't overestimate the potential of clubs like this just because they play in a much smaller league. The likes of Salford looked like behemoths when they were in the Championship. There's virtually no potential for growth in any of these clubs, Leigh for example is a town of about 40,000 that is technically a part of Wigan. It doesn't even have a train station. I think sometimes overseas fans misunderstand the nature of these clubs and places. The only clubs with any kind of potential in the Championship are Bradford, London, Sheffield and Doncaster, which are based in major cities (or a large town in Doncaster's case). The rest are either marginal suburbs of cities or towns that already have SL teams, or in the case of the Cumbria clubs are very small and geographically isolated towns. Their potential is similar to someone like Wentworthville in the NRL.

Yeah but how long will that take? Even one game away is far too many! It doesn't need a genius to tell you that further fans have to travel, the less will turn up. Also rental costs would be huge as I mentioned earlier!

The only clubs with any kind of potential in the Championship are Bradford, London, Sheffield and Doncaster, which are based in major cities (or a large town in Doncaster's case).
I would also add Newcastle to that list. They seem pretty determined to gradually fight their way back into the big time.

Also, I hope the Coventry Bears go well, it's a sizable city, so who knows where they might be in 10-15 years?
